Suggestions to transform an ugly semi

Hello

I would be grateful for thoughts on design ideas on how I can make this semi with side extension look modern/sleek please? The garage will be converted to be a side extension.

Hi Sabina, I would say the cladding, roof and front door would make the biggest improvements. I found this inspiration that could help, when you do the extension I wonder if the roof line could join the garage and front door together.

Painting the steps dark or light would help loads and adding some railings, a nice sconce on the front door would look lovely also. You can either paint or remove the cladding, it would be interesting to see what the wall texture is like under it?

Teak panneling maybe although it looks like you have too much of it ! I would probably go with render....oh and definately remove or replace the handrail ! :)

Hi gogo, here is the new kitchen layout floor plan (excuse annotations); a second one with the lighting and power annotations that seems to have distorted a bit - and a third showing the original layout of the whole ground floor. you can see the vast chimney breast that came out. plus our cellar access (and a drain) were in the old utility room, where we needed units and the island to go. The cheaper solution to all our work would have been to knock through the kitchen and dining room and combine... but I wanted to retain 2 separate lounges. Our kitchen is space isn't vast - but it's actually perfectly proportioned now with our other rooms and apart from those giveaway pillars, almost looks like it was always like that. We lowered our ceilings so no beams showing - took a while to get use to the 2400 height but again, definitely the right decision. I've loaded more pics in my ideabook - (called 'last attempt' in reference to the loading onto houzz debacle, not the kitchen itself....). Good luck with your project.

It's hard to say until you try to be honest. Its about drawing the eye. At the moment, they are very plain and that is drawing attention to the fact that they are maybe a bit dated. If statement handles draw the eye, then hopefully that will work. You could attach the lower ones and then see how it looks. I tend to do everything in increments, I'm a commitment phobe!

well yes, yo are being overly ambitious about all rooms listed in your brief :). Anyway, given you apply for building permissions locally in due time, you may transform the kitchen into a guest WC +small office, the guestroom into a 3rd bedroom with en-suite bathroom and the car port into a big open-space kitchen/diner plus living room. Knocking down the store walls into the garden and making a nice glazed wall there should not be a problem. Entrance porch should be to the right of the current kitchen. Go go and good luck!

Hi, I think the layout of the steps is very dating. If you can afford it I would have a builder/landscaper change the steps to some nice sweeping semi circle steps that go straight up in front of door, would create more of a welcoming entrance I feel.
