Design Dilemma Kitchens Flooring

Struggling to find a kitchen floor option

I’m really struggling to find a floor for our new kitchen extension. We are installing a navy blue kitchen and the walls will be white.I’d like a herringbone pattern but cannot find anything I like that I think would go. All of the LVT’s I’ve looked at are so shiny and plastic looking. Wood is out too as everyone tells me it’s a bad idea for a kitchen.
I’m at a complete loss!

What about a natural stone such as limestone? Obviously it's not a herringbone pattern but it could look warm and really nice next to the blue.

Thanks that does look nice. I was going for wood to warm the space up but also with the idea of running it through the entire ground floor.

As it is west facing, I imagine you get lots of beautiful daylight? The downside of dark counter tops is that they actually show lint & dust a lot more than a lighter worktop. I would advise getting a dark piece of plastic or tile & leaving it in your brightest part of the room for a week & see how much you have you polish it up to get an idea of if it will be practical for you. The upside of lots of daylight is that you can still go for warm undertones & they won't age looking yellow as they get older, I would be tempted to do a warm grey base & lighter top in your space, a tip that we don't do in the UK enough is boxing in the space above the wall units, by doing that it will make your ceiling look higher & the space feel bigger, some MDF & a splash of paint will give you the look for minimal cost, you could even or handles in some of the space to give the illusion of custom cupboards are there. Finally I would do a porch light & be brave with brass finishes. A west facing room is such a treat I would be tempted to give it some wow factor in the finishes to make it feel like a retreat.

I find myself agreeing with a mix of the above : Kitchen and dining should be in the rear extension with folding doors between the kitchen and new playroom (kitchen on your plan). Always useful to shut off a play area to create order and calm! Please leave the extension with French doors which will define the two areas and not out date. Installing a door at the foot of the stairs will help flow to the toilet and mean guests don't have to walk through utility. Meanwhile washing can come straight downstairs without doing such a large loop through the living room. The room that you call storage is useful as a snug to get away from the hubbub of open plan living and or a great teenage hideaway. Of course seeing the house in the flesh adds another dimension to things. I'm sure that there are wonderful designers on this site close to you who would visit and give you some insight for a reasonable fee which would pay off in the long run. Best of luck, Julie

Hi, it would be useful to see the entire floor plan of your house, so we can see how the kitchen works in relation to the rest and perhaps someone has a brilliant idea of how to incorporate a utility space somewhere. Another idea for you would be to contact a concept planner. First one here who springs to mind (because she did the drawings for our own kitchen) is Karen from OnePlan. We had an engineered wood floor everywhere , literally wall to wall kitchens , bathrooms , utility bedrooms hallways and reception rooms
It was Brilliant, so easy to look after and clean. Sweep /Hoover and a damp mop very occasionally. Mop up any spills immediately as people do , bath mats in the bathroom picked up after use to dry over side of the bath or shower and all is well. Can’t fault it .

Have you looked into ceramic wood-look tiles? And perhaps look up different LVT/pvc brands, even vinyl can look quite convincing.
