Narrow hallway flooring

Hi everyone,

We’re having Luxury Vinyl flooring (wood effect in plank) installed in our kitchen, living area and hallway.
I like the idea of a patterned tile in the entrance way instead, but it’s very narrow and I don’t want to make it look smaller. Thoughts on whether or not this would look good would be really helpful and if anyone has a tiled hallway what are the pros/cons.

My sister has a patterned floor (porcelain tiles) in her narrow hall and it looks fab. I don’t have a picture of hers but it’s similar to this. The only thing she complains about is it does show up the dirt!

Thanks for the response. Good to know about the dirt, we might go a little darker to help with that

Thank for all the comments. We will get the radiator cover. As for the paneling...I not sure this is in keeping with the Scandanavian theme...eventhou the master bedroom does have paneling which is very nice. We will likely get a bespoke storage unit made on the other side of the bathroom. Something a little fancier to the one already there which houses the washing machine/ dryer and laundry products. Overtime I think we will get a better feel for what works best - art, picture frames, mirrors etc... Keep the suggestions coming!!

we have a similar hallway, although there is bend between the front and back room and then a back extension kitchen; the front door faces north. We have been through several incarnations regarding light. starting outside, we have a porch light, which helps to light the hall at night (if we use the override switch). the colours are portland pale above dado, and their darker shade below. woodwork Portland Pale too (eggshell)I would recommend leaving the dado in , it breaks up the tall wall and I am always hitting the walls with shopping and stuff and it is easier to paint over anglypta and it doesn't show the scuffs. All the paint is matt or eggshell, including skirtings/dado, so nothing jumps out at you it all recedes. we have a long mirror on the front part wall and a squarer one of the back so we get bounced light. Mirrors match and come from habitat. The door at the end of the hall is small glass pannelled to get the south light coming to the front of the house. The lighting is recessed into the ceiling and supplemented with pendant. We had the attic done and had a dome put in the top floor which floods light down into the first and ground floor. BTW it has taken us 20 years or so of trial and error..................... top photo from front, bottom photo from centre to back of hall

I'm totally with E D on this one. I actually like the wood, and the pale walls, it has a bit of a Barbican vibe to it. I would consider painting the door at the back a very dark colour such as Railings to shorten the space and install some really good quality LEDs. I would keep it pale, if the pure white is a bit cool then F&B Wimborne White takes the edge off the coolness. You could also put in a really bright vintage runner such as a Moroccan one like this. Etsy has lots of beautiful ones.

It sounds like you already have some great ideas! Half height panelling works well in long hallways, and is more practical than wallpaper as paint can be cleaned or touched up if it gets brushed against. A darker carpet or runner will define the floor and add height to the space, a shade that blends with the walls will add the illusion of width. A patterned carpet will help with flow and direction, which can make it feel more lively. Oversized art is always a nice touch to a smaller space (too many or too small and it can feel cluttered).

I’d be inclined to have any lines in your hallway go from left to right Your floor at the moment makes the eye

go straight forward Your colours are great for bouncing light around A vertical mirror just as you walk in would give the room a feeling of space Small mosaic tiles would suit You could put your picture into some of the carpet websites and then change the flooring
