6m extension , will my kitchen be too dark ?
Comments (9)Hi Chandon, Looking at your plan, for the most part I can see you can provide natural light from the rooflights as you note. The area where light may be limited, as far as I can determin from your plan, is the floor area after the island containing the sink & hob etc. This I think is where you are in the existing dwelling ? If so, there doesn't appear to be any natural light from windows anywhere in this area as far as I can see, I guess there are restrictions on this side ? If the above is so, then some additional natural light may possible in the form of borrowed light from the hallway, as it looks from your plan you have an open plan study area with a window. As a consideration, perhaps an inset area of glass located in the dividing wall between the hallway & kitchen would provide some light ? Other than that & subject to what is above the kitchen area, (first floor rooms ?) one of those light tubes may be possible to duct in if it can be located without detriment to anything above. I've a HOUZZ page with built projects & photos you could have a look at & recall a similar project, please see link below, I trust this may be of some help. https://www.houzz.co.uk/hznb/photos/rear-extension-charles-hankin-close-ivybridge-contemporary-kitchen-phvw-vp~49547904 In the meantime, good luck with your build project....See MoreShould I keep original internal doors?
Comments (61)Sorry I haven't read the comments (too many) but if you are considering keeping them, I'd send them off and get them dipped. If they come back in one piece then go from there. It may be they come back with a lot of damage, some panels may need to come out - but you can always update with fluted glass panels etc. If they come back and were full of filler etc and bad condition then sand, fill, sand again and paint a dark shade. You can make them look beautiful if you want to. It may be they come back in good condition! In which case you can stain and keep natural. I'd probably replace all the hardware though....See Morewhat’s happening with bathrooms?? all grey and metro tiles
Comments (99)Hi, the shower was this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brushed-Gold-Bathroom-Shower-Set-Mixer-Tap-8-Square-Head-Top-Spray-Hand-Shower-/383739772939?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292 Not used it yet although the plumber said switching between then is a bit hard as the head drips a bit so? Also the bath filler is very high up but we have a fixed screen to the side and it sits right over the bath waste so doesn't cause an issue as far as we can tell. Tap is lovely https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383794535361...See MoreBreakfast cabinets, bifold kitchen cabinet doors and pantry units
Comments (7)You're really looking at either a hi end kitchen company who supply a more traditional style kitchen ie inframe, or as @Daisy England says, go to an independent, but as you're planning on having this sitting on your worktop, depending on the design of the rest of the kitchen ie if you have towers, the counter level bi fold doors would be to a special size (as most tall doors are designed for tower use). The easiest way to do this would be to have an extra wide larder (800 or 900), fit an internal drawer unit at the bottom, then a piece of worktop, have power points inside and 2 or 3 shelves above. Depending on where the doors come from it may 2x 1965 doors or 2x 1245 doors at the top and 2x 715 doors at the bottom, all standard stuff. Bearing in mind the appliances your trying to hide would be too big to fit inside a 'standard' 300 deep dresser type unit, the counter top option might not be the most suitable. But for a budget of 20K, i could design and supply a larger than average kitchen that has some bespoke made to measure doors and specially designed rigid cabinets and all to a high spec....See MoreDaisy England
