Enclosing 1960s front patio

Hello Houzz community,
We are thinking of adding a gate to enclose the patio and allow us to use it as outdoor entertaining space off our living room, without having to worry about a wandering toddler. As we don’t have a separate entryway and the front door opens directly onto our living room, the enclosed patio would potentially also service as an outdoor entry vestibule. We also hope that this would give some more privacy to the front bedroom, which has a window right beside the front door. Let us know what you think and if you have any better ideas.
