Design Dilemma Living Rooms

copper metallic wall paint, alcoves or every wall?

Im going to put on the feature wall some rose gold wallpaper, in my living room. Ive decided to put on the alcoves some copper metallic paint, Im not sure whether to put it on every wall(would that be too much)? mmm. Its a big room 14' 10 x 13' 10. I think maybe it will be overpowering?? I'd appreciate your input. Thanks in advance.

the painting is going to be done before wallpaper. copper metallic paint is going to go in alcoves or whole walls.

(apart from feature wall). Nothings been started yet. (In 3 weeks we're starting the decorating)

Thank you guys for suggestions - I like the idea of coloured blinds in the windows Pat Oliver designs - trouble is, we are quite close to the road hence why we chose in the end the wooden Venetian blinds for privacy - although with the wall colour they make everything look orange (the colour on walls is "hot sand" by homebase but is more orangy than I had hoped :-( Its very hard to know what colour to paint the room with the biscuit carpet, and natural wood...I can't really change too much as we don't have a budget. I was hoping to get the look and definition I wanted by paint/paper...but might speak to my hubby to see if we could get some more shelving. Minnie - yes good idea about putting back a little of the wall - I was thinking the same myself - although there is only one door to the room and it is smack bang in the middle on opposite wall which makes things more complicated. :-( I imagine it would be expensive though as you say. I have been trying to find pics of rooms with 2 chimney breasts myself so if you do find some, please can you post them for me as I would love to see them. Thank you both again for your comments xx

Hi Becky! I love the idea of copper and mint green kitchen. You've already bought some minty stuff which is great, you can still use them. Heres what I'm thinking... 1. Get some spotlights in there perhaps underneath your wall cabinets? 2. Love the idea of bringing in more herb pots & plants. 3. Change the tiling to mint green or perhaps something a lot lighter, like the marble effect? It will go perfectly with the mint green theme. Just adding better pics of the alcoves. I'm leaning towards having nothing at all in the right hand one. I have a vintage bus blind which will fill the space nicely if I shorten it a bit. On the left I could build an angled cupboard, possibly at the height of the bottom of the windows, which will hide the dvd player et al and have the telly on top, with floating shelves above for bits and pieces. These will do the job of a mantelpiece. Any suggested improvements on that? BTW the sofa will be changed for something less garish when I have the money. In the meantime it is begging for a loose cover! Ive pulled it 1/3 of the way into the room, to allow a run of floor to ceiling bookshelves incorporating a small desk on the wall behind it. Still gotta design and build this! Not sure if this will work in practice, but I thought it would be more restful not to have them looming down at me from the alcoves when I'm watching TV. Plus it puts the sofa nearer the fire.

I have previously used a metallic paint. It’s very difficult to get a good finish because brush and roller marks do show. For this reason I would plan to use it in a small area only.

Thankyou for responding. I will now only put the copper metallic on the alcoves only, after reading what you have said. I couldn't decide. Thankyou for letting me know.
