How to style bathroom with old champagne fixtures

We've just bought a house and the bathroom has an old fashioned champagne colour bath, toilet and sink. There is also tiles all around that have been painted over. Rather than pay lots to get it completely redone, we'd like to try work with what we've got for now. We are considering new taps and toilet seat, new paint colour for walls and tiles, trying to update the bath panel and also a new floor but can't decide what colours will work. Would love some advice/ design ideas.

Personally I quite like the colour of the suite but the floor is cheap looking and the wall colour is cold.

If I was working on a budget I would:-

Remove the boxing under the sink.

Remove the tiles on the window wall.

Dark wood style floor.

Have tongue and groove put on the window wall behind the sink and replace the bath panel with the same.

Strip all flaking paint from the tiles and repaint.

As far as colours I think the current blue paint is too cool and make the bathroom look dirty. Counterintuitively earthy colours will work well with the suite. So you could layer several taupe colours or you could choose earthy greens. However since the window is so big I think I would choose a very dark charcoal or brown for the walls and wood paneling and then a tile paint that matches the suite.

Don’t forget that part of the reason this bathroom currently looks sterile is because there is no decoration so don’t forget to hang a picture or two and add a blind and a house plant

Hi Lilly! Well... I have to be honest and admit that I was thinking about lying and saying it's great, etc. The truth is: I've never used it! not once. I'm a shower girl and it's not that I won't take a bath (I would, I promise I'm not whiffy!!) it's just that since we've moved in, I never had the time or felt the need. Plus, I feel guilty and uneasy thinking of the amount of water I'd waste filling up that monster (and we have a second tub in the loft bathroom that's smaller -- never used that one either...) When we chose the tub, I think hubby and I were a bit nostalgic; I used to have this huge hideous burgundy corner bath in the house I bought just before we met and let's just say, we used to like taking baths together (hmmmm...). So we went for a large one, I guess both thinking of our almost decade old adventures'! I did however undertake an experiment for you: I went and laid in it, just to see how it is. I'm 1.62m (about 5'4'') and with a slight bend of either knees or neck, you can sleep quite comfortably in there. I also thought it could be a great hiding place in case of 'god forbids': fill half of it with water, add bubbles and submerge - it's enough to cover all of you & hopefully nobody will think to look for you in there! :)) I've digressed ... not sure if I answered your question. Our sinks were built in, but their cabinets were low and bending hurt my back. I determined the cabinets could be raised by adding a horizontal board just above the place at bottom that is indented for your toes. It added about five inches, bringing the counters up to the height of our kitchen counters. The board was stained to match the cabinet and is right under where the cabinet doors open. The line of the board is hidden by a length of wood trim. This raising up did require adding pipe to the water lines under the sinks to fill the pipe gap; moving the very large mirrors (no breaks or chips!) upward and moving the lighting above the mirrors up, as well. Took one day of work by carpenter and helper. Well worth the cost.

The first thing you need to do is create storage. If you change your pedestal sink for a vanity, there would be storage below for bottles and jars. Also, you have some space at the end of your shower. Have your local joiner make a shallow, tall cupboard right down to the tub to make it look built in. Finish it in an exterior paint to take the moisture from the shower. There are specialist paints for tiles. Forget B & Q. Go to your local decorators' merchants for advice and good quality paints. If the quantity of mirror is not to your taste, remove the one to the left of the toilet, however the wall would be recessed from the front of the tiles below and the only way to repair that would be to tile with the same size tiles, then paint them as well. Better to leave the mirror until you've done the tile painting. A glass shower screen, replacing the curtain, will make the room seem larger. Painting the tiles white would make the room clean and fresh and neutral. I'd leave the floor as is. Wood is warm visually and underfoot. Using some natural baskets for waste and for a planter would link to the floor. Warm the room up with brightly coloured towels and bathmat. Put up some colourful prints using double sided tape to stick to the tiles and the mirror.

The bathroom measures 12ft x 7ft. I have a budget of around £1,000 for this room as in the very near future we will split the second bedroom to make a smaller bedroom and separate bathroom and put this bathroom back to bedroom 3. The carpets curtains and wallpaper are definitely going. The wall at the side of the loo looks bad but it’s just peeling paper. The walls may need skimming but this can be done along with the lounge. The house is at present is a 2 bed 110 year old semi detached cottage style property so although I’m young (20) I don’t want anything too modern.

We just revamped our old champagne bathroom. New taps would lift the look, and a new toilet seat, although difficult to get one in champagne as I discovered recently. We ended up with this one. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2594507
