lounge decor - advice please!!

We have converted our garage and knocked through to create a new room which will become our lounge.
It has a large picture window onto the garden which I want to be the main feature.

The rest of the house has white walls and eventually we will do the kitchen to create a large open plan space in the middle of the house so decor ideally needs to be cohesive in each room.

We will be carpeting the lounge in a pale neutral colour but I’m stuck on the walls. I feel it would be nice to have a feature wall on the back wall (directly opposite the window). The sofa will be in this corner so it will be a cosy area hopefully.

Any suggestions for paint colour in general or for the back wall much appreciated!

Ps I also wondered about using a textured neutral wallpaper on the back wall to add some interest without being too much….

What a great space and stunning window.

It would really help to understand what furniture (colours) you already have to go into this room, or if you are starting afresh with everything.

It also depends on the mood you want to create in the space, and the function of the room.

Happy to help but I need a bit more info.

Is that a curved wall or just a panoramic shot??

i think I’d do the window wall in the darker tone anyway, it will frame the view to the garden as you can see with the wet plaster

I wouldn't change that floor, it's lovely, so many more colours sit better with a darker floor. Mid oak is nice and it does make things look a little warmer, but you can get that with rugs and cushions, which stand out better against the darker colour. I'd also put the wallpaper on the Chimney breast not in the alcoves, it will look better, then pick up the cream in the background for everything else. Excuse the bad mock up, it's not easy, but this is it with the dark flooring This is it with a medium oak. I think the peach tones sit better with the dark flooring.

hi Carolina, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me and love your ideas. I should have added more detail but you managed to visualize the layout quite closely. Actually, no door in dining area , only access thru sitting room. Love the area rug and have Macys one which will work perfectly - might pull a greyish -blue color from rug for walls maybe similar to the example you provided. Also have two mid-century style floor lamps which I can use. I really like the idea of a mural as the Wow - only concern is that radiator is on that wall. Do you think I could work around that somehow? Shelving will work perfectly - I was thinking something from Ikea or JLewis. Agree that blind is better and like curtains on patio door side. I am really hooked on the mural suggestion . Thanks and I will post a updated photo to show you the final result when we get everything done -hopefully by Dec. -especially now that I have something to show 'the main man'. Your wife is lying on the couch "like nobody's watching" ;-) Also, there seems to be a guy outside the at the front, taking photos of your house... LOL More seriously, I understand what jbtanyderi is saying about no space enough to put coffees, teas etc. You might want to consider some side tables or even a coffee table, centrally. And yes the curtains may look better without the 'belts'. I too agree about the position of the TV and the two seater's position Carolina mentioned. Perhaps you can give people here a bit of an idea of the style you like/ want to go for. I think this will help get advice here.

So Skimming Stone is very close to Ammonite in terms of Value (lightness) but it is more colourful than Ammonite, as it has a bump more Chroma. Increase in Chroma can help towards combating gloominess in a space. Lower Chroma colours are much more influenced by the changes in light. Pointing is the lightest of all the colours you have mentioned, but sits in between both Ammonite & Skimming Stone in terms of Chroma. That quantity of Chroma is still likely to help keep the trim looking crisp as the skirting is likely to have less Chroma. Because of it’s location on the Color Wheel & the fact it has low Chroma, there is a chance it might shift blue in imbalanced light. It doesn’t mean it will happen in your space, but it may. So again, testing on moveable lining paper is helpful. It’s in those dimmer spots where colour shift may happen.

It’s a straight wall (panoramic shot!) and we will be buying a new sofa so it’s a blank slate essentially
