Living room design ideas

Hi everyone,
I am redecorating my livingroom and didn't realized that design can be so difficult.
I'm hoping to find some inspiration here or get some directions in getting a better outcome.
My living room is a double one, about 5x3.5 m, with windows on the sides, one round, a central marble fireplace, colour beige. It has a second door that give me problems in finding a sofa setup.
In the alcove I'll have cuboards and shelves.

Hi,

I'd like to offer some advice regarding your living room design. Please see the attached photo of a room that I designed that may give you some inspiration for layout. A suggestion would be to put a couple of chairs and a side table in the bay window. I hope this helps.

Two chairs would have been a good idea, but we went for 3 seater sofa between the doors and a 2 seater on the left side

Hi Sanaabou, WOW that is a lot of seating LOL. Do you have a shot of what's on the other side of the room? It will help me understand the space better also I presume you want the dining space in the far part of the two rooms? you have some gorgeous pieces and a little reshuffle would make wonders for this space :)

Hi, that's a wide request and needs to consider many things. Besides space specs, layout depends on furniture selection and needs. Style selection is a must before doing anything. I suggest looking around to some ideas books or styles in Houzz, save the pics you like and then to choose a designer that fits in that style. Norikei www.norikei.com

If it's in budget I would block up the arch and replace the brick with a wood surround. I do like your existing fire though but the mantel needs staining and it feels maybe as if that middle section over the burner should come out? I'd put the tv where shown in the 2nd pic. If you rehang the door you may be able to go for 2 x 5ft sofas opposite each other but try it with paper templates. I might go for a 3 seater opposite the fire with a chair in front of the doors though. I like the pudding sofa and chair by loaf (3rd pic although it's a loveseat shown!). If you go for sofa and chair I'd combine fabrics such as neutrals velvet and linen or even a coloured patterned fabric for the chair. For a coffee table I'd either have an upholstered buttoned footstool in a pastel or a glass table as they're both less visually imposing. A "wood" floor with a jute rug for texture. I like the gold twig mirror for a modern look and to add a metallic. Kate Forman does some lovely fabrics for either curtains, lampshade or cushions. If you go neutral for the sofa then I'd add soft pink, green or blue or a combination. The cosiness will come with different textures, pattern, lighting and flowers/plants. If you have the space a bookcase of sorts would be good.

That’s a great idea celery girl. I like that the light is diffused over many bulbs. I’ don’t really like the sconces because I wouldn’t find them relaxing. When I saw the pics I thought I’d rather see them changed to picture lights which would be an indirect light and give opportunity for some art to soften the space. And regarding curtains, I think perhaps there isn’t room for curtains to hang and that the shutters are lovely. Personally I’d be tempted to take the fire place wall colour over the other walls.

Can you add some photos of the room and explain what you particularly need help with?

Is there any way of closing off the top door? You could then move the TV to that side and have a couch in front of it. The bay window would be left for reading / relaxing.
