Help with paint colours for lounge and hall/stairs/landing
Comments (4)Hi Tracey, Dulux can match many colours and their paints are really good. I wouldn't recommend Johnstone's unless you are willing to spend least on paint. Here https://www.facebook.com/pg/paintforme.co.uk/photos/?tab=album&album_id=554663518024190 you will find example of north faces lounge. Important to note is that bright colours work best. Same rule for halls and landings, keep it bright due to lack of daylight, unless you prefer dark posh colours. Here paintforme.co.uk/colour you will find more info on colours, but not only. Good luck! Paintforme...See MoreStaircase: To paint or not to paint...
Comments (18)I think I would try stripping it back as a first step. This will make the wood a little lighter and take the sheen off. The craftsmanship is beautiful and it would be a pity to jump straight to paint. You could try Painting the walls a soft colour that compliments the wood and use light coloured rug/runner to brighten things up? Strategic lighting would also help, a statement crystal chandelier in the Hall to catch daylight, maybe some wall mounted down lighters up the stairs to create soft mood lighting? It’s difficult to see the condition of the parquet - is that a board over it, or do you need to replace it? If so you could go for a light and bright patterned tile floor in a design ‘of the period’. If that doesn’t appeal and you decide to paint I would probably not choose white, as you will likely have to paint the big double doors in the same colour and white will not look as nice as say a pale grey would with that lovely stained glass you’ve got....See MoreStair runner or wall to wall carpet?
Comments (9)Since you asked about runners OR wall to wall carpet, I thought I would show you something we did to accommodate my husband's desire for carpeted stairs (less slippery), neither of us really wanting a runner, and my dislike of vacuuming risers. Not the best pic since this was taken more to show a couple places they needed to touch up paint, and is a close up of our basement stairs but here you go. I am really pleased with how they turned out, and it ties the flooring on our main floor and upper floor together well. You could of course also do this with a fancier patterned/coloured carpet :)...See MoreCan you paint stairs around a runner?
Comments (4)It’s glued at the joins between the steps but then looser on the horizontal and vertical of step itself. So you can see the white underneath the runner if you get right down to look at it, but can’t actually remove the runner. I’m pretty new to DIY and it’s a bit daunting!...See MoreDaphne MB
