hall, stairs and landing - colour help!

We are painting the upstairs and downstairs hall, stairs and landing. Can’t decide on a very light grey (my preference) or a blush pink (wife’s preference). Now thinking we might go with both and have the large wall behind the staircase as a feature wall? Three pics of our actual hallway / landing area and then two random pics to show colours we’ve been thinking of

I would go with the light grey tones, as this will create a nice neutral overall base colour. Possibly even lighter than the image attached. This will allow you to bring colour in in other ways, and you will not limited by having to tie in with pink.

Unless you’re changing the floor, I would avoid grey. I think it will make the space too cold & unwelcoming. The grey just about works in your sample pic because of the wooden floor which adds a warmer feel.

It looks like I may need to repaint my stairs, banisters and spindles etc as the knotting is starting to show through. Big job which I could do without but I was thinking of taking the opportunity to do something a little more contemporary. Does anyone have any tips? In the entryway/hallway/stairs wall I was thinking of painting the walls shaded white by farrow and ball. I wanted to use a feature colour or wallpaper on the landing upstairs. I plan on using Purbeck stone in the bedroom off the landing so something which compliments this would be good. so to sum up...1. Complimenting colours for my banisters to give a classic contemporary scheme to go with shaded white and Purbeck stone. 2. A feature colour for my landing... I can post a pic if anyone is interested.

Hi, You can choose from an array of colours but I'd first look at - whether your house has a certain theme which you'd want to flow into your home - whether you have a few colours in mind -whether you are restricted in terms of colour due to carpet, etc Don't have a paint chart in front of me, but with colours from the top of my head, here goes:: If you are looking at neutrals:- for a light airy cream, I'd look along the lines of Dulux Timeless for whites/greys, I'd look at F and B elephants breath or Skimming stone for Greige like colours I'd look at Dulux Egyptian Cotton or Just walnut as starting points. Alternatively you might decide to go for darker hues or work with colours which are not neutral. Good Luck

Well what a coincident! Visited a friend yesterday who is having her hallway, stairs and landing painted on Monday and wanted my advice (!). She has chosen a Karndean style herringbone floor for her hall and a soft check stair carpet in a warm caramel colour. Staircase is oak and glass. Not much natural light in the hall. We looked through loads of paint charts but she didn’t want the expense of F&B or Little G. Then we both felt Dulux Caramel Latte or Caramel Blush would look good. She later bought some matchpots and loves both shades, so she’s having the Latte on one wall and the Blush on the rest. They are lovely warm tones with very appropriate names!

Hi Sarah, what a beautiful space! My immediate thoughts would be to go bolder (you'll get why if you take a look at my profile ;)) I think a rich dark green would look amazing against the current shade of your woodwork / bannister but would then work equally well if you ever changed that to white. It's often assumed that dark colours will make a space feel enclosed but this is not always the case. You have a lovely window there for natural light and if you added a large statement pendant it would all look just beautiful! A couple of examples I'd suggest would be "Friston Forest" by Albany and "Puck" by Little Greene, National Trust Collection. Just my thoughts. Kate x

Grey floor and walls may be a little cold looking. The pale pink is lovely!
