Can you have two large mirrors in living room?

I have a large room with blank walls. Thinking of placing a mirror above the fireplace and the opposite wall above a console. Is this too much? Any advice as to what mirrors work well together?
I'm looking at the Oka Sedgewick mirror for above the fireplace if it helps.
Feel so clueless about the rules around interiors!

I have no idea about rules, but that sounds fine to me. You could go with a piece of art above the console if you are worried about a clash.

If the console is literally opposite then i wouldnt, think about the multiple reflections (although that probably is a general rule, think about what you want to reflect ie not the tv!). I I don't think its good feng shui either if that’s a consideration?!

If they're not opposite each other and you also use art on the walls, I’d go for a round mirror to change the shape but choose a black metal slim frame to match the Oka one.

I have a lot of throws! I have two huge faux fur ones rolled up at the end of a corner sofa, where there is no back as it's the chaise part, so they work as a back rest. I also have a gorgeously soft chenille type which is light grey with feint white stars on, to pull over my legs when it gets chilly. In the bedroom I have a basket full, mostly floral to go with the room, they are great when it's too warm to get under the duvet when watching a movie in bed.

Just be aware (and you may know this already), drum kits upstairs can be very difficult for those sitting downstairs. I'm not talking about the general drumming noise but the base pedal. When our kids are using it upstairs it sounds like they are going to come straight through the ceiling. We have sold up and have bought a house with concrete floors. On other subject, size of bedrooms is just as important to some people as number of bedrooms. I would knock through. Alternatively, is there room for a platform bed/mezzanine?

Thank you all. Apologies I'm not sure how to answer individually. I agree that the skirting board jutting out looks very strange, most rooms in the house have some 'interesting' design choices. Would you believe that the man who made these changes has now set up his own building company! The lamp on the left is from IKEA, I only bought it a few months ago so it should still be available. Unfortunately the lamp on the right is a flea market find so no idea where it came from. The second alcove is substantially smaller than the one with the bookcase currently in it. I'm just concerned that it may look 'unbalanced' with the built in shelves. I haven't managed to find pictures of rooms with alcoves differing in width. I do love the idea of built in shelves, it seems safer than our current bookcase and adding the storage underneath the last shelf would be helpful. I have found an original black cast iron Victorian fireplace with a width of 125cm versus the 140cm of the chimney. Would this work with the green wall? The room is painted in Breakfast Room Green and I've attached a photograph of the fireplace. Thank you for the suggestion about the mirror. This is the first time that the living room has been tidy enough to have the mirror against the chimney breast so it's helpful to have opinions on it's size. Thank you all again!

I think this room is brilliant (not only because of the potential of the size) because it gives you the chance to have two areas with different purposes. One for sitting on front of the fire/chatting to guests and a second for cosying up with your partner on front of the TV. Agreed with Ellie. On the left side, you could have another sofa (or armchairs) perpendicular to the fireplace, with a coffee table and armchair opposite. I like your idea of having two carpets: One under the coffee table, the other opposite the fireplace on far side. I would add a long side board (maybe an oak cupboard, with 4 freestanding legs) in the left corner for shoes, hats etc. It can change purpose if you decide to move it in future. You could add a fancy coat rack (or wall mounted coat hooks) between the two doors on the right. Are there options to put this beside your front door? In between the fireplaces I think a bookshelf would look lovely. If you’re more a kindle fan than a real book fan, use it for your favourite pictures you haven’t had the chance to hang, and vases and pots. You could map this out before buying more furniture, using newspapers or magazines roughly the same size. (Or use the Houzz feature “view in your room” to test furniture you like on the website in the areas). Also get yourself a measuring tape- this will prove indispensable when looking at furniture before packing it off home to find it doesn’t fit. I realise I rambled off a lot there so I hope this makes sense. I just saw so much potential in this room. Hopefully you manage to get it just how you like.

Hi Sara - I love mirrors in a space to open it up and bounce the light around. I would agree with the other comments though and say perhaps avoid putting two directly opposite eachother.

If you're thinking about putting something above you're fireplace perhaps you could look for a more structural peice of art. You mention that the walls are blank and I appreciate i dont know what colour your room is but maybe to add some character and texture having something like this could create a really beautiful focal point with the mirror on the other side.

I think it is room dependent. So generally speaking it’s a no to two mirrors opposite each other especially in tight spaces like corridors. However I did do it once in a big room. The mirrors were different shapes but similar scales and similar finishes.

In my opinion because they were in a tall and generously sized room it worked.
