Is this basin too big?

we are redoing our cloakroom and got this gorgeous basin (from Tikamoon, if anyone is interested).

it will sit on top of a marble counterop and be in position where our current basin is.

current basin is 46 cm long, 28 cm wide (front to back)

this one is 50 cm long, 30 cm wide but because of its shape, the end of curve to end of curve will be like 53 cms and 33 cms.

the counter will be 160 cm long and 25 cms wide, so there will be some overhang which we are okay with.

we are not sure if it will be too big.

it is a gorgeous piece and we are very reluctant to go with vanilla white ceramic if we have to change :(

It is very nice. Whether it will fit is something only you can decide. Could you make a cardboard template so you can get an idea of sizing?

countertop basins are designed to go on a wider vanity/shelf etc so it doesn’t look right aesthetically to me and not sure if there will eventually be a weight issue?? Would you be having wall hung taps or does the tap also need to be taken into consideration?

Could you not change the cupboards or is the marble already bought?

You get used to the space very quickly and just as quickly fill it up with furniture. The feeling of space is great and as a new build I doubt heating will be an issue with insulation standards. I would suggest creating a feeling of space, lots of storage and light are crucial. 1.5 acre garden is very large, especially with a baby. I used to have just under half an acre and spent forever getting no where with weeding and cutting grass. I literally planted hundreds of trees as a wind belt and for decoration and you will need a ride on mower. Does give you space for a play area, patio, veg and fruit garden etc.

Hi Darren - from the picture it actually looks fine! I'm sure in the bathroom it's a different story. If you feel it's too high up by all means take it down a little, it's all down to personal preference. It actually makes your bathroom look higher as it reflects quite a lot of light.

Yes I think I will move the island seating to the other end as it gives more space to flow around the dining area and means a view of the garden rather than the internal wall. It is rather expensive, but I’m saving so much on the cabinets from DIY Kitchens (as you probably identified with the floor plan from their website planning tool) that I thought I’d splash out on the worktop and get Silestone Eternal Statuario. Now we just need to decide on the cabinet colours. I’d love a dark blue on the island and a white/light grey against the wall, but my wife is leaning towards light grey on the wall and dark grey for the island.

It is not the only route. An alternative route is via the ground floor main door, but has to make a big detour around the house and down a flight of stairs. My initial thought was also to turn it into a basement reception room instead. Indeed... hence I'm quite hesitant to build a separate utility room next to the kitchen. But if the majority thinks it's wise, I'll have to make a rethink about it (as the current kitchen space is quite spacious as well, just the layout I need to rework) Also I have a hunch that a toilet/shower room might come in handy for this basement, so that anyone in the basement need not walk up and down the stairway whenever they need to use the washroom. But not sure if to stay with a simple toilet OR to add a shower room in there as well (OR to include dryer/washer instead).

Lovely basin! But think it unfortunately too big for the area. Think it would not look right hanging over the size of the countertop. Could you use it somewhere else or increase the size of the countertop?

The basin size is fine.

I do however think the pairing with a marble countertop sounds an odd mix of materials and I worry this will look unbalanced on an undersized ledge.

Is this basin too big?
