Dark Blue Bathroom

Hi! I'm sure this has been done a lot before but I'd love to update our bathroom and paint it Hague Blue.

We can't do a full refurb so trying to make it fit with what's already there.

Trying to decide between

1. Hague Blue everywhere - wood panelling, walls, radiator and back of the door. The white tiles and grey sink/bath/floor would contrast

2. Hague blue on wood pannelling, door and radiator, and then soft grey on the walls to tie in with the cupboard, bath panel, floor and toilet area

Or any other options people would suggest!

Never ventured into this before so any help is appreciated :)

Personally I would paint the panelling and the walls in a strong colour, I would add tongue and groove and skirting to the bath panel for continuity.

I would then swap the black toilet roll holder and towel rail for white or chrome or brass.

To get the balance right then add white pictures in white frames to the walls, sumptuous white towels and a white blind mounted to the wall well above the window so that the wall is covered (rather than the window) which will also visually heighten the window.

Do the woodwork first and see what you think...I feel like keeping wall grey to match floor/bath panel might be a bit gloomy, but all Hague Blue might be too unbalance with the shower side of the room. Maybe need a pale colour for the walls, like a murky pink or pale coral or something...or wallpaper for a bit more personality!

The colour on the panelling is lovely. I wouldn’t change a thing.

However I know you want a change so here are a couple of Hague Blue panelling pics. I wonder if it would work better the other way, that Is off white on the panelling and Hague Blue on the wall above, last pic?

Laura, it’s a personal preference but I’d say no. You already have a dark and light contrast which I think looks nice. By introducing The Hague Blue, I think you’d cheapen the impact of your concrete wall by introducing another dark element. I think it’s a case of leaving well alone, it looks good as it is.

We have 2 doors with borrowed lights above them and it transformed a dark hallway into a brighter one. Only thing to consider is fire regs - if in doubt install fire glass. Also whether light coming in through the borrowed light in the summer months would cause any disturbance at 4am!

For me it’s about contrast and what will be highlighted by the contrast in colour. First 2 pics are what you’re suggesting and whilst the shower doesnt stand out in the 1st, it does more soto me in the 2nd? whilst I like the 3rd bathroom, i only ”see“ the tiled shower. The shower stands out in the 4th pic but i think in a good way and the white is balanced with the window and inside of the bath so it doesnt stand out on its own. i don't think what you suggest will look wrong but think about what you want the feature to be and what’s around it etc You could also look at a marble tile as it will lessen the contrast with the blue?What will go on the floor?

White panelling, white tiles, white woodwork, etc. But everything that counts as wall and ceiling dark blue.

I agree, I would paint the walls and ceiling hague blue, keep the panelling grey. Maybe consider making the panelling a warmer grey colour - more of a stone?

Since your tiles in the bath are already white and I assume you don’t want to change them, I would paint the panelling in the dark blue and as someone suggested and if your budget allows, have a matching bath panel made. I don’t think you can go wrong, the colour will really brighten up your room!
