Fitting all my requirements into a single side extension! Help!
Comments (20)Hello Jodie, Most welcome, I hope you saw my extension visuals too which give you a range of ideas and I like the transparency and style of the frames which lend to a feeling of open space.... The day beds are really gr8 in a room where it needs to be versatile so gr8 minds!.. The cream daybed is from ikea.. if you mean the second whiteish one with bolsters.. Something similar can be found at Loaf.. I do really like the Ikea one though as it's woven which is very nice texturally and has a really good aesthetic. and the last one which is my other favourite.. .. I think it would be rather good to have a shower element and so if not the wet room idea, you can still have something fantastic as a shower enclosure if you choose the enclosure wisely. Also you may be able to incorporate the architecture of the space in that you may be able to add a screen or something if the size fits for a walk in or other enclosed shower with single screen.. With regard to the extension you have.. you may be able to adapt it architecturally but if you like the idea of more glass then it might be better to replace altogether but of course dependent on what you choose and decide on an architectural level with the plans etc.. Budget a consideration etc.. You could though take out the existing windows and replace them with doors or bifold or sliding panels.. The arches internally are quite easy to convert to a squared off finish ie where they are situated such as the windows and doorways.. : ))...See Morehelp required with plants for my garden
Comments (7)What we call valerian, centranthus rubra, would do well near the walls in sun, however it does get big roots eventually so I wouldn't grow it in the walls. Creeping campanulas would be nice down the walls, or creeping rosemary for a drier place, cerastium tomentosum (snow in summer), aubrieta, alyssum, various alpines.. persicarias work well in walls too, but it depends how much rain you get. These are for sun - Marina has given a good list for shade. And of course, see what everyone else is growing nearby....See MoreHelp required ugly house
Comments (10)The ground floor windows are not symmetrically aligned to the top floor windows which makes the front look unbalanced. You could re-align the window openings but that requires structural changes so expensive and may impact negatively on the interior design. As an alternative how about a veranda running across the length of the front elevation? It would stop the eye noticing the windows are not aligned? You could go one of two ways- very modern , angular style which would suit the current windows and box style dormers or you could go for a pretty Southern American style as shown on photo- although might need to other changes such as replacing the windows for a more appropriate style/ add shutters etc. Photo shows that windows on ground floor aren't aligned with top windows but not noticeable as the veranda distracts your eye....See MoreFireplace wall removal -Do i require approvals?Need help on this
Comments (3)You'll need building control and if it's a party wall, a party wall agreement. You also may need a structural engineer...See Morerinked
