What would you do with this bedroom?
East facing master bedroom. This is the one room we haven't done anything with since moving in and there's honestly nothing that I currently like about it.
The photos are taken from the sale listing for our house with the previous owners' furniture. We have chunky dark wood furniture (I'm open to painting it but probably not replacing, I've upcycled a lot of furniture so not too daunted).
There is currently a mirrored sliding door fitted wardrobe which we are getting replaced with a new shaker style fitted wardrobe (haven't yet chosen the colour).
We are also replacing the flooring for wood/laminate as current flooring is worn and slippery in places.
We are considering replacing the ceiling (artex, and I think there was a leak at some point in the past as it's discoloured etc) and replacing the light fitting with spot lights as it's quite a low ceiling and current light fixture also isn't centred. Spot lights/electrical work can't be done from above as there is an attic conversion
I'm open to any suggestions! But the blue colour in the photo was in a LOT of rooms when we moved in and I think it might have put me off it for life hah.

Comments (13)Blue or Green are great colors to your room But also Think over to use some Real plants in your Roms in Denmark is it a Big trend to have Big plants right now i haved always haved alot of plants in my home, and for me it does not feel right or like me if there not is plants in the most used room like dinning room ,Living room, Kitchen, Hall, and so on.. my old Friends Call my first small homes the rainforrest becauce my mom and dad did also have many green plants overall in their home.. and my dad did (and still Do !) bye a new bucket flowers to my mom evrry week! So there is allways fresh beautifuls flowers in a vase on the table.. they have be married 46 years.. and been togethers from they was 15 and 17 years old.. my dad was delivering flowers out for a flowers store when he was a Big boy! and his grandparents had a free land Greenhouse at that time.. so when we was moving to a House where there was a Big Garden there need a lot of love and hard work !! I just get my eyes open for a hole new Big World!! I found out that is only your Money Wallet and fantasi there Can break how Big dreams you Can realize to build a oase outside! a new room under open skyes! where you Can feel peace, make a anneks where you Can maybe be kreative, have a bed, to take a nap or rest !use it to be mediafree zone! So you Can go away from the devil stress from all mails,social medias and phones there is constant ask for that your shall see a mail, new status on twitter,link ind , facebook, Snapchat , and so on!! Comments (29)So... managed to find time to discuss it late last night, and we definitely like the idea of being able to make bed 3 larger. I've taken it slightly further in some ways but less in others to try and minimise the cost hopefully as bf thinks that regardless of what we do, it'll end up being prohibitively expensive to re-organise upstairs. This plan would : Keep doorways off the landing to bed 2/3 the same as they are currently (I appreciate the benefits of moving them in terms of not having it right at the top of the stairs, however there's still room for a stair gate at the top of the stairs (should we ever need one), and has never been a problem for us since we've been here regardless of who's stayed (almost 6 years). Removing your study area - we have a separate office/mancave downstairs, and I always work at the dining table even when I had an office space if doing work at home, allowing us to have a bigger family bathroom (maybe a pocket door) with hopefully room for a bath and walk in shower? (as actually the 2 bathrooms we'd be joining are quite compact!) Still quite a small landing area, which I appreciate is useful for general circulation space, but we'd be reluctant to cut into bed 3 more than we have to, and there'd be just enough room I think to have a small window which would hopefully make it feel more airy at least. FYI the pink line I've added is where we get full height ceilings back, as the front half of bed 2/3 mostly have sloped ceilings, except for where the dormers are, but they drop to about waist height at the front. The back wall of the ensuite would be the current back wall of the ensuite again to help reduce costs... Ideally I'd have preferred to creep it forward an extra 10-20cm to give that room to bed 3, however I think for such a small distance it's probably not worth having to knock down, and build another wall. What do people think? ? Obviously would still need to ask builders re cost etc and bf thinks I'm getting hopes up and it'll cost too much... (Anyone got any rough thoughts how much it might be?) but I did point out we could fit most of the bathroom stuff at a later date....See More

4 months agoWow that’s a bright aqua! I agree it has to go as it’s not very relaxing. A soft neutral would go nicely with the dark furniture. I think sharing a picture of the current room would be easier to advise on. I think two bedside lamps would create a softer look than spotlights. You can then use a central light for the times you need more light.

I will agree there is too much blue in this space, Although those chest of drawers and the bed still look in good condition and has potential to be reused in the space. The inclusion of a shaker-style wardrobe seems like a lovely idea as well. I liked the color of the walls, would suggest going with the same color as the other walls for the shaker cabinet to not let it stand out.
For the wall behind the bed, a deeper blue ( if it has to be blue) will go well with the dark wood furniture. I would definitely introduce a complimentary color into the space. A mustard yellow or a dusty pink shade would go really well in the space.
I would also suggest planning the space out since you are taking out the mirrored sliding doors, you would want to find a place you could hang a full-length mirror? Maybe the TV Unit could be wall mounted. You'd also want to think about the artworks hanging in the space, they seem out of proportion. The chair in the corner looks a bit too crammed on there. You probably only want a bedside table?
Since you're doing the Ceiling, I would suggest having the ceiling design with an inbuilt curtain track for a sheer and solid curtain. It looks much smarter and modern. Also makes the room visually taller with the floor-to-ceiling curtains You might also want to increase the no of ceiling lights and change the pendant light.
Since you're also planning to change the flooring, I would suggest going for a grey ish oak flooring and not a natural oak one to pair it well with the dark furniture
And the Last suggestion, I would have painted the inbuilt cupboard, side of the doors the same colour as the walls. as it stands out a lot . I would also paint the interior of the doors atleast same as the room colour or something darker ( like two tones darker than the existing wall colour or a grey ish ) as the stark white doors stand out a bit too much and will stand out with all teh dark furniture and moody vibe in the space.
