Suitable colours to lighten dark kitchen worktop
Comments (5)Hi Elizabeth, I proposed a colour scheme for you as that is usually where people struggle to "match" the granite. I proposed Farrow & Ball Colours but most paint counters will match to Farrow & Ball Anyway, if you want to keep costs down. I included two options for the lower half. You said you wanted to keep it light and the wall and top cabinet colour I proposed would work below as well. I just thought it would be nice to have a darker colour option just in case you changed your mind. Don't forget that high gloss surfaces will bounce light around the room. This means that lighting and the type of finish you propose will be critical to the end result. Also be ware if you are painting the cupboards yourself that silk paint will show up every imperfection! I hope this helped you. Good luck! Jo x...See Morea bad boy granite worktop - which floor?

Comments (4)I think your eventual choice will depend on the colour you pick for the units. While creams/sand/limestone coloured doors will work nicely with your choice of granite, I still think white will go too. As to tiles, I'd probably go for a porcelain with a bit of physical texture (some "grit") and tones which mix beiges through to greys. This should pick up the mix of the granite. Alternatively, I'd look at wood effect Karndean or Palioclik (possibly Arezzo) in a Sand Oak type colour. Sample image here. Hope this gives you some ideas - and let us know what you decide! Comments (10)It’s tricky since in my opinion it does depend on the specific room when you go dark. I’ve gone dark in plenty of rooms over the years and I admit some looked awful and had to be redone. But others looked great and I’m not 100% sure why. But one thing I have learned is that how the bed is dressed makes a big difference. Good quality white bedding balances out too much darkness sometimes, after all beds are large surface areas. And if the floor is light that makes a lot of difference. Also, on those large bedside tables if you had traditional light coloured lampshades that could be a good contrast especially when lit. And finally, a well chosen art print above the bed...See MoreMatthew Schofield
