Advice on shower room

Hi,

I’m building an extension and have decided I’ll take some space from the study to create a fownstairs shower room. I’m thinking a size of 1.1m wide x 2.4m deep (ignore dimensions in picture) for a wall hung toilet, basin and shower tray which is ideally 1.1m x 0.9m. Is the space big enough? Any ideas welcome

You will end up with two odd shaped small spaces. I would suggest you use the space between living room and the new extension for a good sized utility/downstairs loo/shower.

I think its one or the other but not enough room for both and if you have a wc i think you'll also need to have a wash basin as well.

I've just got a 760x760 shower and it's fine for us. The room is 327 x97 (they must have lost a fair bit with tiling and plumbing). My previous ensuite was a similar size with the same size shower. We fitted our old ensuite and the priority for me was a really good shower rather than a teaspoon of water over your head! I know you may look a bit mad but you could go to a showroom and try getting in a cubicle! Or see if any friends have the same size as I think you'll need the extra space for getting ready but it does obviously also depend on the height and build of your family

Hi Annie, The new layout your husband is suggesting could be a possibility however it all depends on where the toilet waste pipe is located as this would affect where the toilet can be placed. The waste pipe might be visible externally or this could be in an adjoining room below floor level. From your pictures, there is no soil stack in the bathroom area which indicates your waste would flow by one of the two previous options. This is critical to any consideration of layout changes. Should this be possible then we think a good option to maximise space would a wet room with the shower area situated along the back wall with a glass screen panel. These panels are perfect to save space and also provide a sleek and modern look. To allow enough space for a toilet and sink we believe the best option would be to bring the recessed wall forward at half height which removes any restrictions and creates more space to work with. To further maximise space, a wall to back or wall hung WC would work and look better. The WC could be placed next to the shower and then a sink or vanity unit near the door. The recessed area which we would bring forward could still be used for recessed shelving above the sink. Your current design makes the entrance area feel very narrow therefore, changing the layout as suggested would make this room feel bigger.

Mine is 1200 x 900, and I have a fixed screen at 700 and a return panel. My entrance gap is 500 (which was wide enough even when I was pregnant, so unless you are very big people, I would say 600 is perfect). I think with a 1000 fixed screen you wouldn't need a return panel.

Could you not fit a wet room into the space under the stairs? Or just have a wc and small wash basin depending on the size. You could also take some space between the two living spaces and use this as a utility/laundry room and put your shower and wc with basin in that. I think splitting the small study into an even smaller two spaces will be very cramped.
