Remove Bay window?

I have this bay window area, that we were looking at making either into storage (drawers in front) or removing to create more space for our living room... My question is that we are in a flat and it's leasehold, would we need to ask to remove it/ make alterations?

I’m not sure what you are asking. If you are asking if you can change how this looks from the outside the answer is no.

If you are asking if there is a void under your window cill and can it be used productively the answer is probably not- it would likely require freeholder permission and they would likely be concerned that it is not supported underneath so is not suitable to be reclaimed as additional floor space or storage.

Ah I meant internally... The bay is 2m by 900 deep which we thought would be good to have as more floor space.

Ah that's a shame! I thought as it would be just stud we could use it.

We would say that your best bet is to go with wooden venetians, they come in a huge range of colours and give you that plantation shutter look, but without the bulk or price tag. They can be partly closed in the morning - giving you privacy but also giving you control over the light coming in. With larger slats you can angle the light towards the ceiling or towards the floor. Hi, You've posted this three times. You may want to take two down. I think the previous owners took the top bit off to run a support for a curtain rail all the way across. Is there any chance you might want to do that too? Ideally you don't want to take the rest of the architrave off. You'll have to replace it with a modern one and it'll never look quite right. A proper joinery business will be able to match any profile, for a price of course but probably worth it.

You won't find a replacement off the shelf, but it is a piece of cake to have identical matching architrave run up by a joinery shop. Easiest thing would be to cut a piece of the existing one off to have copied.

What is under that area though?

@richard - it seems to just be empty when you knock on it it's stud. There's a flat below us with the same bay also... They're also interested in potentially doing the same as us
