Advice on design for an area of garden

We have an area of our garden which measures approx 10m x 3m which was used by previous owners as a bit of an allotment so is mainly just soil and a shed on the area. Our garden is North facing and the area is at the bottom of the garden so gets all of the sunlight in the summer months. It drops down a couple of steps from the main garden and is also next to a small stream which runs across the bottom of the garden.

Looking for some advice on what would be best here. We're thinking of paving, and an area for a bbq but just having it all paved may be a bit boring and expensive! We weren't sure whether to put a pagoda in the left hand corner (east facing so gets sun in the morning) or a small summer house as a feature as this gets less sunlight as the sun moves around with the right hand corner (west facing) getting sun most of the day and into the evening. Its a bit of a blank canvas so any help would be really appreciated.

It looks like a nice blank canvas in there!
It looks like it is in a slope. Is this area levelled? If it isnt, you should factor in the cost of levelling it out if you are thinking about using it as a seating area as moving soil out can be a bit of a dent in the budget. There are some options to hard paving such as gravel etc. You could also use some of the area for plant beds, which would add interest to your seating area.
It is also important to keep the rest of the garden in mind when designing this area so that they are tied together!

@lisamarie1000 it looks like you've got quite a blank canvas to work with there but as well as giving lots of opportunities it can also be quite daunting if you don't know where to start. As a starting point I would look at where the sun falls in the garden as this can be important for growing vegetables and the greenhouse which need to be in as much sun as possible. Draw a plan to scale of the garden and use cut out shapes to represent the different areas (growing area, play area, sitting area etc.). You can place these on the plan and move them around until you get a layout that you are happy with. The size of the shapes needs to be big enough to represent what their use is. You can also base this on the dimensions of the house such as location of windows and doors. Try to avoid pushing everything to the edges as this can just draw attention to the boundaries and make the space feel small. Think about how you would move through the garden to get to the different areas. If you are going to have a path through, it will be more interesting if this isn't just a straight line down the middle. By making the route through have changes in direction you can add focal points (such as the apple tree) and make the garden seem bigger. If space is tight consider growing vegetables mixed in with ornamental plants so that the garden doesn't look like an allotment. Finally think about using screening with tall plants or trellis at various points so that you don't see the whole garden at once. This can also make the garden seem more interesting and enticing.

Had some thoughts about your garden and came up with a rough sketch:) (see pic). Decking outside the garden office would look nice but I’m not sure about bringing it all the way to the house as decking can take a fair amount of maintenance although you can get composite decking or slabs that look like wood which would probably be easier to look after. I think breaking it up and having some planting would be nice and more pleasing to look at. So on the sketch I brought the decking to surround the office windows then added a small seating area and space for planting which could include a small pond or water feature. This could be like a contemplation area where you can relax and have a tea break:) Instead of decking pathway I think slabs or tiles to match the patio would be better. The patio I’ve kept as is but extended a little to include bbq area. Did think that putting the bbq on the right side of patio might be good as well. Put in some extra planting areas but that’s just because I like plants:) planting pocket is basically a hole in the deck but some tall grasses or similar with lighting would look great on the left side of the office and help to balance things out. Not sure on a pergola mainly because I think adding another tall structure on the left would make that side of the garden seem overly busy but it’s entirely up to you what you want. Anyway hope this gives you some fresh ideas:) P.s. sketch is not to scale.

Plants help with everything. They make any area more exciting, enticing and inviting. Try googling the Duchess of Cambridge show garden which was at all the major RHS Shows in 2019. There lots of plants which really tough and can cope with kids jumping on them sometimes. Also according a QED program I saw many years ago, damp grass is the safest surface to land on. Unfortunately completely dry grassed areas with clay soil become as bad as concrete to land on when really dry! Not design solutions but food for thought.

Help -Need advice on garden design which includes rear garage removal

I’m in a semi detached but might as well be classed as a terraced as there’s no direct access straight through to the garden. The access is difficult as everything would need to taken down a very narrow path (access for small cars to be parked in rear garages) I’ve been told there‘s a lot of manual work which is why the cost altogether is quite high. I’ve been quoted £300 per day for labour and it will take 7days for everything to be taken out completely from the garden. On top of this a minimum of 3 skips costing around £700. The garage is also quite high up and I would need a retaining wall once taken out and landscaping starts. Our budget was around £7k for completing everything but we getting quotes around £9500. 😩
