Two questions I have for my shower room

Hi all

Currently giving my shower rom a bit of a revamp and am stuck on a couple of points

I have painted one wall green. I like the green but will be changing it to Lick Green 02

The question is - Should I eave it on one wall or do the back wall as well?

I am also having a bit of a dilemma

with the floor. I ordered some tiles but they looked far too busy in a small room

Should I go for a little patterned or marble tile or wooden floor boards?

I will be having some wooden shelves n the right hand side. wooden sink shelf, white square sink and some other black, white and wooden accessories as well as some art and plants

Any ideas you have will be welcome!

So you are changing the wall tiles? I wouldn’t have any pattern on the walls as it would be pattern overload with the flooring, I feel. I would also suggest blue rather than green on the walls. Pick a shade from the flooring. The paler blue-grey looks nice. Parma Grey by F&B looks a possible match? I rather like stacked tiles to give a fresh look.

I think it's the flooring we're talking about here? The lick green 02 is a nice shade and will go well with the wood shelves, sink stand and plants. Flooring, I hate tiled floors, the grout never stays white but I think using grey or black grout would be too busy for your floor. Have you considered vinyl? You can get wood effect or all sorts of tile effects but keep it pale and keep it simple.

It sounds as if there is movement in the floor. Did the Building Inspector inspect the building work and issue a Completion Certificate for the work? If not there may be structural problems that you should sort out first. The joists could be undersized so the floor is deflecting. I recommend getting in a structural engineer to check this. If there is a problem they will advise what needs to be done. Worth spending a few hundred pounds on this. Rigid floor tiles need a firm stable base which is more difficult to achieve on a timber floor structure. They do not usually work if just laid over a typical chipboard floor. I would recommend employing an experienced bathroom designer who should be able to come up with a design you like and includes the storage you need. They are likely to know tradesman who have carried out successful installations. This may cost more but will dramatically reduce the risk of problems.

Hi Fullrenov This sounds like a really poor installation on several levels, you must be very disappointed and frustrated. I think you should contact the British Institute of Kitchen & Bathroom Installation. http://www.ikbbi.org.uk/ They can offer good solid independent advice and check to see if the various standards have been met. If you are having all these issues after a few months, your installers have to come back and sort it out for you, their work must be guaranteed. Good luck with it all, I hope you get it sorted. Karen

Hi Mark, You've asked for two things - 1. The key to a new shower room is proximity to drainage. Have you considered partitioning off the left of the rear extension and connecting though to the waste in the kitchen? You could narrow the open doorway from kitchen to rear room to give you around a metre width. You'll need extraction to go outside as well, but perhaps this is easy through the side wall, depending on if it is a detached house or not. 2, Open plan could be done either by removing and putting steel beams in place of the wall between living and back room, or alternatively removing the wall between back room and kitchen and reconfiguring the kitchen to an open plan design. You will know better how you use the space, but having the kitchen open to the dining or living space is really popular and "party friendly"! I hope this helps! Alexander Build

Thanks Julie and Sonia. I've already painted the tiles white and done the black grout so not looking to do anything else with these now

Yes its the flooring I have problems with. Have looked at all sorts of vinyl patterns but everything seems to be a bit busy which is why I was leaning towards maybe having a wooden floor.....

Sorry i misunderstood about the tiles! I really like your floor, is it tiles or vinyl? I have vinyl in my shower room and it is really easy to clean and non slip. Mine has a wood effect. If you are finding the patterns a bit overwhelming then a simple wood or stone effect may be more your thing.

Haha I get a lot of comments about my blue sink and tiles - i HATE them!!!

Yes I think a vinyl wood floor is going to be the way forward

Would appreciate any other suggestions as to whether i should paint both walls?

I would do both walls and definately put in a warm floor. I actually like the floor and it may have been possible to have worked with it, but if you are changing it then a warm floor would be a must for me. Green and white in combination look very cool and so a wood or wood look floor would really work.

This is Lick O2 with wood.

I like the floor tiles and think if you choose a wall colour that worked with its colours it would feel less busy. Farrow and Ball Inchyra Blue seems to be a match on my screen.

If you are intent on changing the floor a wood look would be a nice choice. Only when you have chosen the floor can you choose the wall colour. And like other commenter I would paint all the walls (and possibly the ceiling too).

Yes, to painting the back wall. and I’d go for a wood effect luxury vinyl tile or vinyl roll.

I would also try selling your old sink on Ebay or something and purchase one you don’t hate. 😁

I totally agree with Jonathan. I was going to suggesting painting and the walls and ceiling a pale blue too. I think the floor tiles are lovely and would be such a shame if they had to go to waste!

Also the round window is such a lovely detail to the room, I would highlight this by painting the internal surround one shade darker blue than the rest of then room.

I love your floor.I love the green too, and have a blue and green living room, but it isn’t working here. I agree that you should paint both walls blue. A warm, slightly dirty blue. It will also help lose that sink, which may be your favourite thing but seems fussy and impractical to me.
