Living Rooms Design Dilemma

lighting advice please

Hi, we have our living room redecorated & would love some advice on love the harmony ceiling shade from John Lewis. Would grey if natural/neutral shade would suit the wall & lampshade? I like the warm glow of the neutral

Thanks for replying. We will be painting the room possibly Cornforth White, getting rid of curtains & blinds for shutters, changing the radiators. Grey sofa & blue leather cuddler chair. Can’t decide on coffee table

Definitely! If it helps I don’t think it would be much to change it over to something you fancy, sell it on and put the money towards what you want, it doesn’t even look like something I’d use in a dining room it’s more kitchen style to me.

Hi Patrizia, Ok so for the island, I take it there is an extractor fan in the middle for the hob? If so I would stick to the 2 spots either side and make sure your extractor fan has lighting (they usually do). The alternative could be to have a downdraft extractor fan (if it is still possible to change this). They are not as expensive as you might think, obviously as with everything you get what you pay for. Here's one relatively cheap but can fetch up to 2K! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cookology-CDD900BK-Kitchen-Downdraft-Extractor/dp/B0191SSA5I If you do decide to have downdraft extractor fan, I would ditch the spots and put three pendant lights. This is going to to add instant character and statement pieces into your kitchen without looking like a football stadium! For the dining area I would also suggest to have one medium sized chandelier modern/traditional whatever you fancy. This is far more modern than having spots and will also allow you to add your personality and character - something spots can't do! Hope that helps! Rukmini Patel Interior Design

Hi there, Considering how low your ceilings are, I would suggest placing spot lights strategically rather than in a grid formation. This means placing the lights in the right places and where you would need them. I also recommend a dimmer switch. Lighting is really important in the home if you are getting your ceiling plastered then I recommend you get this right first time as it extremely difficult/messy to move lighting once your ceiling has been done! I can provide you with a lighting plan according to your living room dimensions and furniture and can offer you a low cost option. I Googled retro and sputnik lighting and loads of stuff came up. Wayfair have lots but i'm not sure about the quality. I'd never heard of this site (below) but they've also got some great lighting. Strange descriptions though. One fab one came up and kindergarten lighting???
