Closing off an open stairway to loft room

Our new house has a loft conversation without building regs from the 90s. It looks well done generally, but having a large room with an open staircase means noise is an issue and heating is being wasted. Its not dormar and to put a wall & door at the top is tricky due to slope and uneven shapes (not that i can find any trade people willing to quote) I don’t want to spend £30-45k getting it converted properly to essentially offer the same as already have. (can’t picture selling in my lifetime). Going to try a draft curtain at the bottom but ugly. Any ideas?
