Stair Runner Dilemma
I moved late last year and have steadily been redecorating but seem to be really stuck with the stairs. I've used F&Bs Hague Blue on the walls and Off Black for the doors/woodwork etc and I'm also going to paint the stairs in the black. I'm struggling to find a stair runner though. I'm looking for something bold and a contrast to the dark, walls etc. The flooring is going to be replaced with a dark wood herringbone so again I'm looking for it to stand out and contrast. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks all, some great ideas there. I’ve added another photo of the hall leading to the stairs, as I say the flooring will be changed but gives an idea. i like the idea of the yellow, think it would contrast well.

Comments (11)Hi. Sisal is a natural sound insulator so I would opt for 2 runners as per the south surf road pic. I'd include a skinny console where the thermostat is. You might also want to add a plant as they're good for insulation. Hard to tell if a mirror or picture will go over the top from the pic . Comments (8)I would not be happy about that at all sorry. I don’t think you need to concern yourself with whether it’s the measurer’s fault or the fitter’s fault (unless you got an independent fitter?) your contract is with the carpet shop so I’d just be asking them to sort it. Gather as many pics as you can of what it should look like ie with the lines straight and the runner edges vertical on the risers. Comments (9)If you have a modern home then I would go for a fully carpeted staircase. You can get great modern carpets with lovely elegant and modern textures to it. You can also add some stair rods which made it of higher quality but this would bring up your budget. 2 years agoCrucial Trading do some very bold carpets. Not sure if they can be made into runners. They also have more subtle carpets.

2 years agoSophie Ellis Bextor posted her stair carpet on instagram last summer - it is certainly bold, and when I saw your photo, it made me think of it! It’s from a shop called House of Hackney. Sadly not cheap though….!

2 years agoJust noticed the flowers. This one by Roger Oates could look amazing. The natural colour would work with the wood and the coral is the complementary for the blue/black.

2 years agoThe mustard yellow does look great, and offsets the dark tones really well. However, if you want something a bit more subtle, i would go with a pattern similar to this image, and keep the base tone similar too the stairs. Something like this wont date as much as mustard/yellow might.

We have had customers mention House of Hackney for runners, but also the price. If your looking for something more economical in price then I'd advise to shop around locally this way you can touch and feel the product before purchasing.
I can potentially assist with flooring though as we hold huge stocks on the floor in the UK of high end bespoke herringbone engineered wood flooring. We are also specialists in Versailles panels and Geometric flooring which maybe also be of interesting.
