where is the best place to sell second hand sofas and how much for?

last year

Just got a new sofa which replaces a pair of brown leather sofas. They are still decent but no idea bet place to sell. EBay and gumtree are the obvious choices. But is there anywhere better in the UK? Thanks

You could try Facebook marketplace. Or, if you have one, a local Nextdoor group.

I find Gumtree excellent for selling items. I have used Facebook Marketplace too. I’ll warn you now that secondhand sofas do not seem to sell for much at all. Most secondhand sofas I’ve seen on Marketplace are selling for £100 or even for free, unless they are almost new, on trend or grey corner sofas which people seem to love. I suggest you go onto Gumtree, Marketplace etc to research what similar sofas are selling for. This is an example

I do like the Kitchen on the right in the dining area. The only thing I don't like about all the ideas is that you have to walk out of the kitchen to the utility area, when you could probably have a better kitchen with built in appliances. Then use the utility area as a coat / shoe / storage area. Not having a coat cupboard will be limiting the storage to zero. Also, I don't think you need the door from the Hallway to the rear of the house. Something roughly like this ( As mentioned a few times now, it's difficult with no dimensions to go on ) I think compromising the flow of the house just to have a quite small, separate utility area is not the best way forward. If you're really set on a Utility off the Kitchen, then I would stick with your plan to have the Kitchen on the left, and with a further tweak you can get a better Utility area:- I was also wondering about the dimensions of the little piece of wall at the end of the lounge and wondering if you might be able to move the door to that, this would then allow a wall for a sofa and the opening up of the wall from lounge to dining area, giving more light and a front to back aspect to the house. Thank you so much Sonia, My girlfriend told me about local vintage shops and charity shops but I don't know where how find it, I normally buy in those places because is faster because you don't have to waste a lot of time searching, many people comment and have many reviews... Ikea is not longer cheap I think! where do you usually buy furniture? Best Regards,

Please Help! How to best use extension space to achieve our wish list.

I agree with above - you're going to have a lovely bright utility! The usual way people extend is to put the utility and WC into the darkest bit (turning the utility 90 degrees like suggested above) which then pushes the kitchen/dining/living towards the garden end. But that would have involved more walls coming down - I feel like this is a case of you got what you asked for, but now you're asking for something else. I think the architect has come up with the best layout though for minimal work involved - putting the dining table in the dark space will just make it a corridor and you'll mostly eat at the island in the light room with garden views (other than dark evenings like you say when being in dark dining room will be quite cosy). I know people who have done that and regretted it and wished they'd put the kitchen in the dark bit as you tend to be doing something in there anyway and you'll be looking through the lovely bright space rather than being in it. Getting a decent second living space seems important to you so the current layout achieves that. You could perhaps add some high level transom windows between kitchen and utility to bring more light into kitchen (depending on where tall/wall kitchen cabinets are going to be and how ceiling is). Another option that you haven't mentioned is to put the new lounge into the dark space (then you'd have to call it a snug!). Leaving the new space as kitchen and dining. But perhaps you want the sofas to be looking onto garden, or you don't want it right next to the other sitting room - which is understandable. So it depends on what you'd use that living space for - or would also having a couple of upholstered chairs or a window seat in the extension allow you the flexibility you are looking for? Regarding the loo situation - I don't like having to walk through the utility to get to it (mainly as you're going to have to clean/tidy your utility every time guests come round, no thanks) - alternative is to walk through the WC to get to utility - would result in a bigger WC (you don't want to squeeze between toilet and basin so put them on the same wall) and a more useful utility space - and you'll have one window into WC and one into utility and nobody will be walking through the cat litter tray - could keep the pocket door idea so that it's more like one room normally, but easy to close off the messy utility when guests arrive (if that is ever allowed to happen again!)

Another vote for FB Marketplace as that tends to keep it more local. You might find that if you have a van and can provide transport that would help with the sale.

Sadly Facebook Marketplace has become a haven for scammers, usually people saying they’re sending a courier round with the cash as long as you pay for the courier in advance but he never arrives. Nobody buys anything without actually viewing it first and yet people still fall for it…….
