Need help deciding on kitchen splash back

We’re currently renovating from scratch a two bed apartment and I’m having problems making a decision regarding the kitchen. My husband has chosen grey marble look porcelain for the flooring throughout and we’ve decided on Matt white wooden cabinets with white quartz (marble look) worktops. Our kitchen guy suggested putting the same quartz on the wall as a splashback but I’m worried it may look a bit bland with too much white. I can’t decide if I should go for tiles or a glass splash but in a bold colour to brighten it up. What colour do you think would liven it up a bit ? We live in Italy so it’s quite a bright room with lots of sunlight coming in from the patio door. Me personally I would have a hot pink on the splash but my husband won’t stand for that 😂 thanks for any advice you can give me 🙏

You do need a contrast otherwise it will be very cold and mono coloured. Tiles need continual cleaning especially the grout when it gets splashed so glass would be my choice.

I presume your kitchen is separate to your lounge so you can’t tie the splashback colour in with lounge curtains or sofas?

What about orange, lime green or even a turquoise colour to add interest?

Thank you! You are right about the tiles and with my husband being a chef they are constantly being covered in whatever he’s cooking at the time and the grout gets so grimy. I liked the idea of no grout hence why we were thinking of the quartz on the wall but it’s so bland so coloured glass could be the option. Yes the kitchen is separate so can be any colour. I love Mediterranean colours which actually is what I’ve chosen for the bathrooms (they won’t have the grey marble floor tiles)

Lovely kitchen - very nice design and beautifully finished! Wrt splashbacks - glass is probably the first choice, with near infinite posibilities wrt colour, print or even a hint of sparkle. Decoglaze have some fantastic options in their Decokiln range if you want to add some interesting textures. If cost is an option, you could consider acrylics, as you do not need to worry about heat. As a last thought, would you consider a feature geometric tile, such as these from Ted Baker? If used sparingly as an accent, they could work really well with your design and colour scheme. Behind your range i'd use a stainless steel sheet, Ebay's cheap, but just google stainless steel sheet, available cut to size all over the place. This one for instance is quite a size 2000mmx1000mm Ebay ( Stainless Sheet ). You can then use the car paint and the metal will take the heat as will the paint. Or to go with your colour scheme how about Copper?? copper sheet ( Ebay ) Plain Or, take a blow torch to it for patina??Copper patina sheet glass available from a trader on Houzz [Glass Splashback[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/products/copper-patina-glass-splashback-60x60-cm-prvw-vr~87224336)

My personal view is that tiles in a kitchen are a harbour for dirt and a pain to keep clean. Smooth, sleek surfaces are best. We went for granite upstands to match the worktop and a contrasting but neutral glass splashback.

Mirror splashbacks can make a small space look really cool between wall units and base units. Apart from the standard mirror silver you can get antiqued (is your kitchen style dictates this) or coloured glass such as copper/bronze. If you are not that keen at looking at yourself then a smoked grey is a great option for modern contemporary kitchens.

Mirror splashbacks can be cut around sockets for that perfect look. Ensure behind your hob that you have toughend glass otherwise it could shatter with the heat from the hob.

A simple upstand in the same material as your worktop say 75mm high is simple then use a washable paint for above for a simple look.
