The pizza oven was from The Stone Bake Oven Company, the barbecue i think was a Cadac Meridian. We designed and built the unit for them as part of the garden project.

There are plenty of double ovens on the market. I rarely use my top oven for cooking, only for grilling bits and bobs, but mainly toast. To be honest I could manage without it but just like the thought of it being there as a back up. Warming drawers are expensive. We fitted 2 a couple of months ago for a customer (one in each housing under the ovens) and her reason for choosing them was that she didn't like microwaves. Whether or not she has used them, I don't know. They're not something I would personally cough up for. I guess it depends on how many you're cooking for on special occasions that you feel leads you to want the double oven. I cook for 8 most Christmas days and manage fine in the bottom part of my double oven. The turkey is cooked before everything else goes in and I have 3 shelves Personally I do not like to see an integrated microwave installed oven a double oven. It's too high.

Hi all, thank you so so much for all of your input. We think we have come up with a plan that could work for us, and have taken many of your into consideration. We see this house as at least a 10-15 year house so think it’s worth spending the cash on. We are working with an architect with whom we will discuss our plans in more detail. The important factors for us, having been on this journey are: Keeping the kitchen where it is Squaring off the kitchen to make it a more open space Make the house ‘ready’ for what we hope will be a growing family in the near future We also don’t want a vast open space (that’s our personal choice) and want to keep our options open. The house is pretty big and with great proportions as it is. This whole exercise isn’t about having extra space but making the existing space work as well for us as possible. As a result, we think we are only going to extend across the kitchen and not the living room, and will have a side door opening out of the new extension on to a decking area which bi-fold doors in the sitting room will also open out on to. Our hope and plan is to also knock through from the kitchen to the sitting room, not sure whether this will be entirely or only partially and to potentially incorporate a ‘sliding wall’ or pocket door set up to enable us to change the use of the space depending on kids, guests etc. This plan may not be what everyone would advise, but we are excited to see how feasible it is and how we can make the space work best for our plans!

Hi, firstly I’d also recommend DIY kitchens. They were great to work with & even the lower budget options come as ready made units. We are in the SW & they sent people to template our quartz worktop without any problems. We couldn’t get to the showroom but ordering sample doors was easy & they’re happy to give advice over the phone. They also have lots of useful videos on their website. Apart from that, I’d retook at the layout of your kitchen. I think the tall units next to the window will block light & the ‘entrance’ to your kitchen with the peninsula there is narrow. I’d also reconsider swapping the kitchen & seating area. I just think having the seating area in that space as a snug will be cosier on cooler evenings - you could even have a fire of some sort in there. Watching TV without full light from the patio doors will be easier & you would then have the possibility of an island in the larger space.
