Bedroom refurb finished

After 3 months in the guest room, we'll be back in our room tonight. 😃 It's been a lot of work, and hubby still has furniture to make. He's designed it all, just needs to but the timber, and make it. We've installed soundproofing, replaced some floorboards and laid new laminate, installed ceiling tray lighting and new bedside lighting, new skirting boards and architrave, a new door, hung the opposite side to before, lots of lime plastering was needed. We had French style curtain poles made, so no need for a centre bracket. This all started when we had the windows replaced last autumn. As well as furniture we also need some artwork so will be keeping an eye out for something we like. We've done everything ourselves. It's been hard work, but worth it. Good thing I retired last year though! Angie

Did I mention, we'll be changing the doors, skirtings, and architrave in the rest of the house? ὠ1 8 more doors to go. We don't anticipate as many complexities we had in the bedroom however. Only changing flooring in one other (small) room and the rest should mostly be standard redecoration. Famous last words. ὠ2

Here's a thought - I have two teenage kids and I have never known them or anyone elses kids to play in a "playroom" for more than half an hour especially on their own - they always gravitate to where you are! and will end up building lego on the kitchen table etc. and in the end you are happier having them "in sight" (Unless there is a host of other kids at your house as well.) So my advice would be to not lose valuable space to a designated playroom. Think about the activities you and your partner enjoy too! Do they need some designated space? It could be a room where a lot of toys are stored, sure (and its nice to close the door on it) but could it also be a room where the piano/craft table/office/homework desk/drum kit etc also live.

Agree that there is too much white - it all looks cold and uninviting at the moment - but I suspect you know that. A feature wall behind the bed - nothing too drastic - a light grey - just something to break up the whiteness. This would also take a large picture, and pick out a colour from the picture to change the colour of the duvet cover. Just a suggestion, but could the spare mattress be stored on top of the other mattress, as it does rather stick out at the moment?

Thanks. Lots of finishing touches to be done. I'm going to teach myself quilting then make a quilt to fit the colourscheme.
