Help please choosing colours and design for dining room.

Hi, I’m so confused about the colours to choose and where to put them for my dining room.

I’ve chosen a wallpaper for one wall, which I love, not sure whether to put it on 2?

It’s a dark room as it is north facing.

I would paper the whole room! It’s a dining room so you can get away with dramatic. I always think feature walls make a room look unfinished. All or nothing

Your paper is gorgeous. I immediately gravitate to the green to co-ordinate with the background coloring. Even though it is a dark room I feel the lighter green will still give the room a lift, the darker one will make the room cozy..... so it depends on what feeling yo uj would like the room to give you. The cream, yes will lighten the room, but may not connect colorwise as well to the paper as the green tones.

Wow that wallpaper is amazing. My immediate thought was the sage green background. Have a look at F&B Cromarty or Dulux Tranquil Dawn which are similar. Or how about a rich yellow like F&B India Yellow which will create warmth. You can then add sumptuous velvet curtains in the deeper green or perhaps that gorgeous orange/ochre. Can’t wait to see the finished room!

I think the DSW chairs would look great but I agree they seem to be everywhere now so it's hard to justify the price tag for something which isn't very unique (and essentially just plastic). You mentioned mid century. Have you considered auctions/gumtree. You can pick up a set of original mid century chairs very cheaply if you hunt for them. I'm on the look out too for dining chairs and have also found most chairs I like cost £150+.

Dear all, Thank you for your very helpful comments! I greatly appreciate it. My partner likes curtains (he always found curtains pretty and they would help with insulation as we have single glazed windows) although I also love the idea of blinds and see how curtains can crowd the place and get a bit lost behind the sofa. I think the idea of oatmeal curtains or blinds with a blue trim would be really lovely and I will definitely look into this. Do you mean a trim running the vertical length of the fabric? We had thin sheer white shades already that you can see now in the pictures. Carolina, it's great advice to make sure to get wider poles so the curtains flank the windows - I think this will make a big difference to open up the room. If we get curtains we would also probably replace the wooden poles with thin chrome poles. Bathroom Eleven, thank you also very much for recommending blue cushions to tie it all together and suggesting we switch the table direction. I followed your advice on both (I had gotten this cushion last week and didn't put it out yet) and I think it looks great! I will look at the links you sent. Thank you all very much again. Beks

Hi, a warm, pale grey might work. I would keep wall colours soft, light and neutral to maximise light and add colour with wall art.

I’m with Laura. Go big or go home! I personally love the paper and I think it will look amazing on all four walls. I’m really not a fan of feature walls as I think they look a bit off. If you love it, and I can see why you do, then have to conviction to have it everywhere. It will look far more harmonious. I’m guessing you primarily use the room in the evening and you can bring out the colours in napkins, table mats etc.

I wonder if that has LIttle Greene 'Light Bronze Green' in the colourway? I have that in my kitchen and I love it. It's a very warm deep olive with a mid century feel. It looks amazing with orange as it contains orange in the mix. If you were to have some orange candles etc it could look amazing. Not light, but warm.

I'm with Laura as well. Paper the whole room up to the picture rail. I would then do all woodwork and cornice white and paint the ceiling and frieze with the darker colour. The Little Green colour suggestion are very good and the darker green looks to be a match for the background colour in the paper.

The wallpaper is New Bond Street, Victory by Little Greene.

Im with papering the whole room up to the picture rail too…….and also love @Sonia idea of the rich velvet curtains in an antique gold/mustard hue.

My personal prefeence would be to use just one other colour for celings and woodwork and go for a warm white with a slight undertone of green like School House by Farrow and Ball

I would paper all walls too but go all the way to the ceiling. not a fan of stopping at picture rail as it makes the ceiling appear lower. i would go for the dark green colourhappy suggested on all the woodwork. i feel that a white or other pale colour on the picture rail would put an odd stripe across the wall, whereas a dark warm, rich colour would complent the wallpaper and enhance the cosy mood.

Hi Lois Kelly, that is a lovely wallpaper choice and looks like fantastic room you have! From the photos you have attached we would recommend wallpapering every wall up to the ledge. It may look like something is missing by only doing one or two walls. Wallpapering all of the walls would suit the character of the room well. With the window, doors and when furniture is in place it won't feel overpowering as it will be broken up by these elements too.

I wouldn’t usually gravitate to this type of paper but once I saw your beautiful room I fell in love with it! Definitely paper all walls up to the cornice/ picture rail. Then paint above this and the ceiling in the same colour. If the colour you choose isn’t too dark I would even paint the woodwork, doors and shutters the same. Statement walls never make a statement in my opinion, they just make the room feel unfinished and to be honest are so done to death. Your room is original and your paper so amazing so go ahead and be gloriously different!
