New home is an arts and crafts home. I am a minimalist with bright and airy feels in my
Home How do I lighten up this room without losing the character . Love the dark wood. Wall
Colour I would normally do white but is it too much of a contrast. Furniture not mine

Hi HU-311761423 , looks like your new home is going to be lovely with all the character! Sometimes when a room is dark it is best to go down that route as it suits the room and even painting it light it will always have a dark element. An option could be painting or stripping the wood lighter, but we have seen your comment about liking the dark wood.

Much as I like Arts & Crafts I do find the dark wood quite oppressive. Would you consider painting it? Here’s a couple of examples when the rooms have been lightened with some white.

Hi Lots to answer here, i might not get through it all but can certainly add to your post: Firstly, the more you can build above ground the more cost effective it will be, groundwork costs for underground projects have more structural considerations, drainage etc and therefore high likley to be more expensive. Your 8m x 7m is to tight for 3x cars plus a store room. Something will need to give if you want all this across one level. A rule of thumb would be to keep garage bays at 3m wide by 5.5/6m depth. As an example, our standrad 3 bay garages are 9m x 6m, if you add a store than half a bay should do it at 1.5m x 6m. You do have a generous depth at 7m so could incorporate a store at the back instead, but it will be 1/1.5m deep (maybe this is sufficent?). I can send you our garage range showing all dimmensions if it helps you with measurements, so you can see what sizes work. This includeds our room above garages as well. Just contact me through our profile. Equally if you would benefit from seeing what others have done, request our ideas brochure. Normally i could provide price indications but with your groundworks issue this woukld be misleading. Typically an above ground build for a 3 bay room above barn would cost £50k/£60k + vat for the full works and then a single storey 3 bay barn barn £40k + vat - but with your requirements and sliders for classic cars etc your into serious costs beyond this im afraid. However certainly a very nice project. On the face of it, i would suggest a 8m x 7m Extrawide two bay barn with room above for storage/office. the garage bays would be very wide and therefore could accomodate a store (or event he stairs if need be). Alternatively a tight 8m x 7m three bay, but be sure to sling a tape measure with some markers around your cars to expereince what getting in/out of the cars will feel like. Note: If you keep the bays open to one another then the car door can swing open into the other bay, making it not so bad. I hope this at least fills in some of the gaps. We deal with complicated groundworks from time to time and driveway/drainage solutions to combat this. Its never a cheap process, but always rewarding . Andrew / The Classic Barn Company

OK all, I have a website!! http://www.lucianastatues.com/ It's almost finished, I haven't started on the blog or added an 'About' page, as I'm not sure what to write yet. It went live a couple of days ago but then had some glitches, and the absent-minded geek (I have his approval to call him that) who made the site told me not to advertise it until he takes care of them. Everything is working now; I could say I have 2 websites, as he built another one for me initially that I didn't like that much. It was probably the wet dream of a webdesigner, with lots of features and pop-ups and hexagonal inserts (don't ask...!) but just too fancy for my needs. So I told him to keep it simple, sat down with him for a few hours and hurray!! - I think he's done a great job. This site is just straightforward and easy in my opinion, simple to use and with large photos that help with seeing the details. I would appreciate some feedback though, so please let me know what you think. I'm still not sure about prices, I mostly charge by how tall the figure is and how much I like it:)). Next week is gallery touring, I'm going to Birmingham tomorrow to a craft fair, but mostly to look and maybe buy supplies, not to sell http://www.thenec.co.uk/whatson/hobbycrafts# My main problem at the moment is that I ran out of stock! :)) I sold a few more things, but they were commissioned, so they don't appear on the site. Didn't have time to make a lot of new pieces, so some of the stuff that's there is mostly things I would've liked to keep or had on reserve, but now decided to sell them. I knew starting all this will leave me less time to play...... Plus my geek gave me a task list with stuff to do to promote the website, and I'm supposed to write that blog every couple of days..... Anyway, my gratitude again for your help and support. As I said, I'd appreciate some feedback on the site. The natural material . have looked into stripping it but wondered if it would work with the beams and intricate areas Lighter wood would be ideal
