Living room dilemma

Hi guys,
I'm back again following on from the previous post about the fireplace dilemma. We managed to source a refurbishrd cast iron fireplace, oak surround and granite hearth in the end.
Being design inept, our dilemma this time around is choosing the right style rug for our living room. In the photo is our old rug from the previous house just to bring something soft to walk on.
Attached below are a couple we have our eye on but are reluctant to pull the trigger on currently. The zebra is a wild choice and I quite like various oriental? Style rugs shown in the second link.

Following this we will look for a tv unit in either natural wood or white.

Whatever the style, pick one with a touch of colours from both your sofas, just to unify the room. Lovely sitting room by the way…

be careful about painting the walls too light when you have such dark furniture- most people think it will make the room lighter but in fact will just make the sofa look darker and I suspect you won't like the contrast. I would choose Charleston grey for the walls, Strong white for the paintwork and coving then Clunch for the ceiling and above the picture rail. Don't forget you will need an accent colour- teal, plum, yellow, Navy, in fact loads of colours work. You will also need some pattern. Bring the pattern and colour in through pictures, lamp shades, Rugs, cushions, throws etc.

Need desperate help with our awkward living room layout! Our room is a bit awkward with bay window, small alcove, doors into middle room (photos attached). We're trying to decide where to put sofa & tv, and attach a couple of photos. The obvious place to put the tv is in the largest alcove, but this is right beside the south east facing window - I would hate to have the blinds down all the time as we need to bring light into the house. I also don't really like the idea of the tv above the stove, unless really necessary. I attach a few possible layouts.

It depends on the shade of turquoise but coral, terracotta and shades of orange or yellow could work. I might consider doing the cocktail chair in a patterned turquoise fabric and the wing chair in a shade of orange

Hi Sharon, I like the idea of herringbone. But I don't believe the arch/flooring decision need to be related. It's a modern looking arch not the 'traditoonal 90s' one so looks fine. I agree with Ellie to treat the rooms as two and have armchairs to enjoy the garden view. Re curtains...is the blue on the dresser wall the same blue as the one on fireplace wall please? Can't quite tell from pics...

Thanks for all of your thoughts, suggestions and kind comments guys! The room has come a long way from the space we started with, that's for sure.

We're looking at rugs with dimensions around 2x3m which will allow the front feet of both sofas to sit on top - i vaguely remember reading that being a rule somewhere. We're not set on those two either, they're just examples of what we think we like so if you have any other suggestions feel free to throw them our way!

Here’s the “rules” on placing a rug in a living room. I know when we were looking for a rug we found it was the hardest part of finishing the room! Have a look at Next and Dunelm for some cost effective rugs. We chose a traditional Persian rug in the end, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but we love it and it creates a very cosy vibe.
