The Pond is Finished ….. Finally
As most of you know it has been an ongoing project. The small pond started leaking so hubby emptied out all the fish into the large pond to set about sorting the problem.
It was originally a flexible polyethylene liner and was replaced with a fibreglass pond kit. We tested it and it leaked … twice! Both in different places. We started it in autumn last year but then had to wait until the weather improved before the leaks could be sorted as it needs warm weather for the hardener to take on the fibreglass.
First photo is the large original pond which now contains the large koi. Second photo is the new pond with the smaller fish in.
We finally finished it yesterday. Hallelujah 🎉🍾🐠

Comments (9)Lots of potential and your garden is so pretty. I would fill it with a mixture of good topsoil and compost. What plants you choose does depends on the aspect - is it sunny or shady in that spot? You could put a smallish evergreen shrub in the middle then surround it with gorgeous perennial flowers In a tier. if it’s sunny, I would plant an evergreen Cistus (white or pink flowers) then surround it with Crocosmia, Hemerocallis, Globe Thistles and then the final layer at the front all round with Geranium Rozanne, Campanula, Nepeta or Lavender Or Aubretia. These are just suggestions but as long as the plants you buy are the right height and like sun you should be fine. if it’s a shady spot you could try Skimmia an evergreen, then add some Ferns, Bergenia, Anemones. last yearWe decided to make our spawning mops x 3 to see how effective they are as opposed to buying plants. They are supposed to be popular so we will see. Here is what they look like and then an image of them in the water with the polystyrene which makes them float. As we have had to add the grids on top to stop the pesky heron we treated the fish to a circular feeding gadget so all the food is easy to obtain.

last yearOh that’s a good idea Daisy. Might try that. We had railings made to stop the heron getting to the fish. So far so good. Herons look amazing, but I don’t want to provide their supper! This was taken just after it was installed last year. We’ve got some work to do on the pond surround.
