Do I get rid of sofa??

last year

OK so I have an L shaped living room.
The dining part of the room has become over taken by my wife's brand new fish tank and we can hardly sit at the table if we wanted to.
We are a family of 4 adults now so don't all sit together for meals and are much more a meal on the knee kind of people so do I get rid of the table?
What do you think?

Hi. I also like the fireplace. I agree with Jonathan re mirror and perhaps paint the tv unit white although the tv does look a little big for it but that may be the camera angle! Does the keyboard have to be in this room as you could move the tv there? You could also lighten the sofa by adding lighter cushions and throw and incorporating some of the wallpaper colours which will make it look visually smaller

Hello ladies&gents! And thank you for your continued interest in the sofa adventures of a confused housewife! The issue has been resolved! however, you don't get to know the result until you have all the details, so bear with me please :).... It's been a mad week - a friend of ours asked if we could 'babysit' his 2 years old Springer Spaniel for a couple of days. Of course, we'd love to, the idiot us (hubby&I) said, we'd be delighted, as we want to get a dog anyway and this would be good practice. After 2 days with Bonnie, I came very close to committing suicide :)) - due to tiredness and because I just couldn't stop laughing hysterically at Andrew who was trying to logically reason with the dog. Bonnie is the most delightful creature I've met in a long time, exuberant, happy, running mad all over the place, chasing every bug in existence, barking mad at every sound, sleeping for 10 minutes to wake up barking at... gods know what... she'd be pulling the leash like she was being chased by hell-hounds, almost dislocated my shoulder a few times, always trying to find a puddle to splash in, she jumped in the river - Andrew almost had a heart attack, as she was trying to go across instead of returning to him... Why I'm telling you all this? Because in my 5 hours sleep for 3 nights, evidently I didn't want to approach Carol and conduct a tactful discussion with her - that was just beyond my abilities.. However, loony Bonnie forced my hand after deciding that, even though it doesn't smell very nice, Kate's sofa was a lot better than her doggy bed, so she 'moved in' leaving mud, hair and slobbering all over the thing. I admit, I felt rather insulted, we have all these other perfectly nice sofas, and the dog prefers Kate's... Plus, I put the sofa in the 'out the way, messy corner' in front of the bins (sorry, I didn't tidy up for the photo). So I went to Kate and told her that 'we have to talk'. I spent half an hour rubbing the sofa down after Bonnie's owner came to get her yesterday - and managed an 8 hours no barking sleep last night. To cut the story short, Kate came for tea an hour ago. I told her directly that I feel very flattered that she offered me the sofa, but there's genuinely no room for it in our house and I just don't know what to do with it (I moved it in this other corner (below) for when she came, not by the bins... naughty me... Oh, and please don't ask why we have a dinghy in the garden... it was supposed to be there for 3 days until Andrew would find a trailer to move it.. that was 7 weeks ago). Anyway, Kate said 'I knew you're going to say that' and told me she'll have it back. Just like that. Direct, simple, easy... after me agonising about her reaction... it felt very flat and anticlimatic (hence the story about the dog to keep you all entertained :)). Love her, Kate then said 'I'll bring you back the champagne", we decided to drink it together when I'm back from Paris - we're going for 3 weeks, I need to finish the terrace and balcony there... Bit hard to make out from your photos, but could it be greenfly or whitefly? Greenfly can apparently be sprayed with a mix of water and washing up liquid. Worth a shot.

How can I get rid of damp in my fitted wardrobes?

I know this post was a few years ago but just wanted to add my experience to the posts. My wardrobes are not actually on the wall, I suppose about 2 inches away from the outside wall and that wall is not damp. The wardrobes are floor to ceiling from IKEA (chipboard oak veneer) and so have airflow all around them. My clothes have had mould spots on them over the years and shoes soles have rotted. When I first noticed these incidents I bought things to soak up any moisture in the wardrobe but that got monotonous and didn't work 100per cent. Eventually we have drilled holes in the backs and bases of the wardrobes. I think this has helped to some extent but only time will tell. I think it could be what the wardrobes are made of as it has only happened since I have had this style. Also, something that seems to have made my ceiling/top of the wall black or damp along the top of my bedroom wall (similar to Zat's pic above) is that we had a ground floor disabled extension for my son over 10 years ago and it has a flat roof that I look out onto from my bedroom. Building Control or Surveyor when visiting the extension project at that time, told the builders to put these plastic oblong sheets all along the wall and above new extension roof as there's a gap between the wall and roof. In so doing, I think it has prevented airflow through the bricks that have those little gaps intermittently along the wall of the front of the house. This has been the question mark over the decade as to why we get these black marks at the top of the wall. I have 4 windows in that room also and always have them open for airflow and ventilation. I use a dehumidifier in there in the winter when it may be too cold to open all windows. My husband used the anti mould paint last year when he decorated our bedroom and painted over that. Six months later it was coming through again. Another issue I think that might contribute to all this. When we bought the house from new in 1983 off plan it was Timber framed. It was a lovely well insulated house, In 1990 we extended our bedroom and lounge. We couldn't find any builders in those days that knew about Timber framed extensions and so they just did their normal style work with brick. Nowadays we are more informed with all the programmes on TV and advice on computers and in hindsight we would have looked for a builder that did Timber framed. I have regretted it ever since really. The 1991 extension is the colder part of the house unfortunately and feels too cold in winter that I have a heater on the end walls of the lounge and bedroom. The disabled extension had better building regs to make sure the rooms didn't go below a certain temperature and they are fine. If I could have my house gutted I think I would have extra insulation fitted, underfloor heating and maybe other things that would once again make it a nice cosy home in the winter. But that is not going to happen! Hope this may be helpful to anyone for future use. All the best.

Funnily enough I had a similar post a while ago. My table and chairs were very squashed in my kitchen and I was thinking of getting rid of them as we never used them. With help from Houzz members it was suggested by some that I moved them to the living room, within a bay window and moving a sofa into the kitchen. It has worked very well for us and we now use them every day. Do you have space in your kitchen or another room for them? If not, then if you don’t use then there is no point in keeping them.
