Need help with sewage treatment plant noise

Hello there,

I’ve been having some serious trouble with the annoying vibrating noise that comes out of my sewage treatment plant.

I surfed the internet and came across a device specially made to silence the sewage treatment plant noise, It’s called an AVR Unit.

It seems alright and is apparently the only device of its kind but I’d really like an opinion from someone who’s tried it.

Do you think I should get it? Can you help me out?

How about painting the radiator and the wall it is on blackboard paint, having a gallery including your piece of graffiti art (I like it) on the wall on which the door is on. You can have a couch there or a daybed, whatever you want. Keep all the walls white except the one with blackboard, leave your curtains as black white and grey and paint your floor glossy white. Put a modern light as your main light. By having all these items in black whites and grey it means that it can change to another room at a later date easily. Have the wall shelves as you had them in your design, go for a white desk and have an orange chair. Have an extra large rug that has some black or grey. For the bookcase I suggest some closed in cupboards for items you don't want to see and some open shelves for items that can look pretty. Dear John Walsh, I attached a quick sketch for you. My suggestion is to keep the drive/paved area taking the majority of the front space to maximise the parking area. I would create a terrace at point A levelling - or achieve a gentle slope - from the car's entrance and the house's door. I would created a low containing wall by the house entrance door for the level's gap between the drive and the point A. Using plants and shrubs close to the entrance of the house will add interest and colours, softening the wall's edge. My advice is to plant shrubs with a low full growth height on the private share drive's corner and to keep them regularly trimmed to maximise the visibility for local traffic. The shape of the curved part of the drive near the house's entrance door will depend on dimensions of the overall parking area and if you are likely to park your car right by the door. Not sure how busy is the main road but an edge and a high fence will reduce dust and noise (Google: Acoustic fencing). Orientation and shading is to be considered before choosing to plant threes and/or shrubs that can grow over 2m H. I hope it helps, best of luck with your project! Elena Jackson at Interior & Design

Thank you, Printesa and T Grey, I didn’t see your messages until now. It’s been 2 months since we bought it and I am still not over the shock of being so lucky to wake up and see that view every day. We’ve been busy, very busy actually, trying to find tradesmen to sort out some things. Firstly, we discovered 5 wasps nests and (unfortunately but necessary) had them destroyed by this very chatty guy. Then we noticed some gutters were blocked and had another chatty chap around to clean them. Then came the chimney sweeper, the guy who is going to sand&varnish the floors, the painter-decorator, electrician, and so on. Plus we ‘inherited’ a gardener (thank the gods!) I was having nightmares thinking about maintaining all that garden on my own. Also, our architect friend agreed to take on the barn renovation and already submitted a pre-application plan to the council. So everything is on track; however I am ‘not allowed’ (says Andrew) to buy any furniture until the interior renovations are done, I had to restrict myself at getting tableware and bedding and towels (John Lewis had wonderful stuff on sale last month). I’ll probably start pestering this forum soon! I’m rubbish at choosing blinds and curtains and the likes, plus I am unclear about how to furnish a couple of rooms. Noise in open plan kitchen

I think a lot of folk who see and dream of these huge, open plan living/dining/kitchens in photo shoots and in house magazines fail to appreciate just how noisy (and potentially whiffy) the area can be and incompatible with how they actually live their lives. It stands to reason that a great big, cavernous area with few or no soft furnishings is going to be as echo'y as a school gym - not to mention the sound from a TV or even speaking that would be amplified. Our new kitchen is far from 'cavernous' and isn't one of the open plan 'lifestyle' kitchen/diner/ living room things - it's just a kitchen/diner simply because we like having proper rooms with walls. But even so, it was more echo'y than we liked. So we got a rug for under the table and curtains at the 'bi-fold like' doors and the stable door which leads to the back garden. Combined with seat cushions on the dining chairs, it has deadened it. Artwork has also helped, just because it breaks up the flatness of the walls.
