Need help with sewage treatment plant noise

Hello there,

I’ve been having some serious trouble with the annoying vibrating noise that comes out of my sewage treatment plant.

I surfed the internet and came across a device specially made to silence the sewage treatment plant noise, It’s called an AVR Unit.

It seems alright and is apparently the only device of its kind but I’d really like an opinion from someone who’s tried it.

Do you think I should get it? Can you help me out?

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who has comment and given suggestions- I am very grateful ...... Sometimes when it is your own home you just cannot see what is needed!! Have decided on introducing an accent colour of a very rich dark plum colour with a splash of cerise pink here and there - am thinking cerise will be an absolute minimum - in the form of silicone spatula heads, tongs, etc.... Am now designing a painting for the wall to the left of the ovens - I paint so can have a piece of my own work there. And am talking my husband round to the idea of changing the two big lights over the island to something a little more contemporary!! Love the idea of fresh plants - at the moment only have the token gesture of a basil plant on a window ledge that gets a drastic haircut every time I do Italian!! I have learnt - and I should have been more adventurous in the beginning - instead of worrying about " what if I get it wrong" with regard to the look!! I am also going to have Roman blinds made for the Windows with a funky Pom Pom trim - now looking for some plum fabric with a shot of cerise in it.... Not quite sure about pelmets yet..... Whether to have them removed or recovered to match new blinds. Thank you again for all your suggestions - handles will stay at the moment - as too costly to replace ( over 50 of them!) and the granite..... Well, that has to stay!! Or my husband will combust!!! But thank you all again for all your ideas and your time- have already ordered some plum coloured Perspex stools for the island and feel inspired again!!

I like it. Much better orientation on the property. I also like how the potential future apartment area can be closed off. It feels like a more contemporary comfortable, family home, rather than the classical, symmetrical house design you started with. Would love to see the progress pictures.....

I think a lot of folk who see and dream of these huge, open plan living/dining/kitchens in photo shoots and in house magazines fail to appreciate just how noisy (and potentially whiffy) the area can be and incompatible with how they actually live their lives. It stands to reason that a great big, cavernous area with few or no soft furnishings is going to be as echo'y as a school gym - not to mention the sound from a TV or even speaking that would be amplified. Our new kitchen is far from 'cavernous' and isn't one of the open plan 'lifestyle' kitchen/diner/ living room things - it's just a kitchen/diner simply because we like having proper rooms with walls. But even so, it was more echo'y than we liked. So we got a rug for under the table and curtains at the 'bi-fold like' doors and the stable door which leads to the back garden. Combined with seat cushions on the dining chairs, it has deadened it. Artwork has also helped, just because it breaks up the flatness of the walls.

amy, I think the grey floors can work, light walls will provide the reflectivity needed as floors do provide light, but not anywhere as important as wall surfaces. you can use different shades of colournbetwen the two areas , so lighter and darker shades of a colour will work well. I personally like to have skrtings, archtraves and doors in the same colour as it gives a strong uniform theme. There are paints with a metallic finish around which can give a nice finish as well as the usual F&B paints that everyone loves. check out Eico paints for a different palette of colour including some.metallics or Mylands for some great traditional paint with good colours. good luck with your choices, we all start somewhere and I'm sure you will soon become an expert !! best Rowland
