Help with curtains in a patio door recess

I want to hang curtains in the recess of my patio doors instead of on the outside as is shown in the photo, for a cleaner look and I think it will create more space around the dining table. I have researched as much as I can but I need help choosing the type of rail and design of the curtain top. The rail will need to be fitted to the top of the recess and be as invisible as possible. Your help will be greatly appreciated Tia.

By putting the curtains in the recess you will lose a lot of light. I suggest you measure how much space the current curtains take up on the outside and then block out that amount of space with cardboard to see if you are happy to lose that much light. Personally I would go with a more tailored look such as roman blinds above the outside the recess or a pelmet with roller blinds behind which will retain the light but give the cleaner look you want.

Hi Dawn, Love your new kitchen! We offer a system called PerfectFit, which allows blinds to sit inside the uPVC frames of windows or patio doors. They clip in neatly, without the need for drilling, and then become an integral part of the window, which means they won't flap about in the window. Hi there, what a lovely kitchen ! I would suggest a roman blind for the smaller window, with either eyelet curtains or wave curtains for the patio doors, you could have them so that they stack to the right hand side, given that this is an access point to the garden. Colourways wow there are loads out there and you can have them treated to repel kitchen splashes etc. warwick can offer this at no additional cost; I think if you are going for a plain then consider a leading edge border for the curtain and a border at the bottom of the blind or the sides ; options are limitless!! Hi there, You could still have curtains if you have your heart set on them, but perhaps opt for just one which bunches along the right hand side. I can see you struggle for space on the left. Alternatively, you could soften the look with blinds instead. Pleated blinds fold up really small so are a good choice for patio doors, but you could also have pretty much anything (including Roman blinds which take up more room when stacked) if you fit it outside of the recess rather than close to the window. I’d definitely stick with a Roman blind for the window. As it’s quite a small window, I’d hang the blind outside of the window recess (a good 6inches above) so that the blind doesn’t block too much daylight when up. You could have a matching curtain, with a pole outside the recess and line up the top of the curtain with the top of the blind. I’d prob just stick with one curtain to pull back to the right across the window as you have light switches on the other side. Eyelet curtains would stack back quite nicely without too much fullness in the way of the window or door. Alternatively, you could just have a track inside the recess for curtains but it might look strange if the blind isn’t also recessed.

You will lose a lot of light doing that and I think it will look rather odd. Perhaps get some lightweight, floaty curtains instead rather like Jane’s?

We have 5 bifold doors and have a single curtain inside the recess as you describe. The track used is called a ‘wave track’, the company that made our curtain recommended and fitted it. We’ve been very happy with it. The curtain is lined but pulls back, not fully covering one bifold when open. So it doesn’t block out too much light.

I have voile curtains on the inside of my lounge French doors which still lets in lots of light. They are hung on a telescopic pole through a slot heading. I have considered replacing it with wave curtains, but can't justify the expense yet :)

Having the curtains up tothe ceiling makes the room feel taller. Especially if they are lighter in colour. However, have you considered blinds if you are after a cleaner look ?
