front door, garage, side gate

so I got this done finally and I don't think it quite looks right...something bugging me about the trims and not sure how to put it right......

any suggestions?

Can you paint the trim on the garage door and the side gate black - the white is making the difference in thickness and height stand out too much.

On the garage door and side gate you have black surrounded by white trim, about the door you have white surrounded by black trim. Swapping the colours above the door might help it match better.

A very smart looking front door by the way! I’m inclined to agree with nasmijati and tamp75. I think it will be a challenge to find a paint that will match exactly, and a contrasting colour may only serve to detract from your lovely new door. Unless, you are thinking of changing the colour of other external elements e.g eaves, fascias, door and window frames etc, for which I would suggest grey, as it would really complement the oak. If budget allowed in the future, you could always go for an oak garage door too!

Hi there, it will be hard to achieve an open floor plan with this side extension . In fact, it seems it would just complicate things in a very expensive way. If you don't need a 4th bedroom every day, but just occasionally for in-laws, can you make the garage into a small, compact guesthouse? If your kitchen feels too small, you might just want to relocate it to the room with the fireplace. Good afternoon everyone! We are blown away by the amazing response we have had from this community, thank you everyone for your feedback. We are especially grateful to Jonathan for his valuable feedback.. the idea is genius and makes so much sense! Thank you so much Jonathan for taking out the time to help us! I have never seen my husband so impressed by an idea so much!! I have attached a couple more photos showing view of the garage from the front of the house along with the entrance gate itself into the property. I have also attached a copy of our floor plan. We would really appreciate your thoughts on what we could to with the garage and front exterior in terms of: Garage walls - What do you think about the brick work? Worth keeping, or should we clad? Garage roof - We currently have an unsightly metal sheet. We don’t want to fully rebuild but we’ve seen light weight roofing for garages which look like tiling. Any suggestions or thoughts on this? Front exterior - We’re looking to improve kerb appeal of the house from the front, any ideas welcome (cladding, paint, stone work?) Windows - these are the original single pane windows which unfortunately come with poor insulation. Any thoughts on what to do for those? Further to the front patio suggestion, is it worth installing an entrance which leads straight into the kitchen through the current ‘Study’? See floor plan. (We are planning to extend the current kitchen by a further 2.5m towards the rear garden). Any ideas, suggestions and comments will be really appreciated, thank you for your help!

You will be altering the appearance of the front elevation. Planners, and planning departments, have different interpretations of the rules. It would be prudent to procure some pictures of your proposed gates ,and discuss your ideas informally with the local area planner before incurring any expense. Say you want to tidy up the front ( bins etc ) and provide better security to the dwelling ( a planning consideration ) and sound them out. It should be ok but for a bit of time it saves the potential hassle if they have a local policy and you were to buy gates that were, for instance too high for their liking without planning permission. I have had 2 instances recently were locals have not liked someone's gates and have informed the planners who insisted on a planning application. Either way it should be ok eventually. Good luck.

I agree about the garage trim - it seems a tad chunky and very white, so a big contrast to the door. Painting would help to balance it. Are your windows new too or are they being replaced? It would be good if the top and bottom windows of the bay were more similar (in terms of where the openers are and the proportions between the top openers and bottom panes).

I agree with Leonie, the door canopy looks very dark. I would repaint the door canopy supports white to frame the door , I can see the trim around the gable matches next door. I would probably paint the gate frame black , as your eye is drawn to the gate and the garage rather than the front door.
