Hi Sunny. If you need the dining table there I would definitely go for a banquet style seating area that can be pulled out when required but give enough space on a daily basis for passing sensibly. It seems like this space would really benefit from a 3D render package allowing you to visualise the space and how it will look when finished. You would then be able to try a few different options on the door front as well as the seating area. They don't only allow you to visualise the space saving you from making costly mistakes but you can then also use them when sourcing and with contractors to get your ideas and requirements across more clearly. I added a few images from some our recent 3D's to give you an idea of what you get (usually 5/7 images of each space). I look forward to hearing more on your new space. All the best, Gina

Hello everyone...this is SO very helpful - and thanks Kathryn for all your advice! We're going through the exact same routine for slide & tilt doors - and needs some other windows too. Our shortlist is Sunseekers or IDsystems. We are edging towards IDS, as they can offer the doors AND all other glazing we need - whereas SS only offer the doors (and also saw a few dodgy reviews for them too). IDS are few grand pricier. However your experience makes me feel they may be worth the extra. May I ask you, Kathryn, how much more glazing did you have (re negotiating price down), and what size are your (beautiful!) doors - are they 950mm panels? How much more did you pay for the special colour? THANKS so much,!

When considering your upper cabinetry, it certainly looks like you would get more cupboard space by going to the ceiling. Sometimes the concern about doing this in a small space is that it could be more enclosing and visually crowd and shrink the space. A thought would be to have to the ceiling cabinets but a little slimmer so they aren't so deep that they close in the bench area. Bench space is of a premium so maybe the upper cabinets could be made bespoke so that you could have an open shelf in the corner above the microwave, not square into the corner but angled to run across that corner, so you can lift the microwave off the bench. Keeping the bench clear could also be of benefit in your new kitchen, so hanging racks for utensils and spices that are close to the wall could be worth considering. Others have suggested moving the fridge out but hmmm, not a fan of how that would go living with a kitchen half in the living area. Certainly search small kitchens for some design ideas and tips, sometimes it's amazing how well a well thought out kitchen can work in a small space with all the neccessary elements.
