kitchen fitted before or after flooring if having UFL?

I am moving my kitchen into what was my dining room. It currently has wooden floorboards which I am hoping to cover with under floor heating (gas) and then amtico. I know this will add a few cm’s to the height of the floor so my question is, should I have the flooring done first or is it ok to have the kitchen fitted first? I was assuming I could get the kitchen fitted straight on top of the floorboards. Will this be ok? Reason is so I can get the kitchen in and be using it while I take a few more months to get the funds together for all of the flooring! Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Personally speaking, I would always do the flooring for the whole room then fit the kitchen. If you ever wanted to change the layout with partial flooring, you’ll have a problem. And no changes in levels for fitting appliances in.

Surely you need to take up the floorboards to lay gas underfloor heating? We just had all of ours dug out, it needed insulating and the screeding on top before the kitchen is laid. Without insulation beneath the pipes you’ll lose the heat downwards.

Hi Steve, thats the rough cost when apportioning the total cost across the 3 downstairs rooms... Also bear in mind that this was done by the same guy who did entire house plastering so he may have done me a deal, also i did all the prep... Ripping up tiles, removing skirting..etc and the entire groundfloor was empty meaning he didnt have to worry bout anything other than turning up, mixing, pouring and levelling :) PS ta.

Thank you all so much for the positive comments. Yes - it's Bodbyn. I found ikea the easiest to get the cupboard configuration I wanted as everything is so interchangeable. Ps For some reason I thought this post had failed so I posted it again... You may see it crop up again in the feed!

Do you mean the plinth that goes under the doors and sits on top of the floor attached to the cupboard legs? If so, it doesn't make any difference to the floor as the plinth doesn't sit flush with the front of the cupboards and you alway put the flooring back as far as the legs of the units. If you don't mean the plinth, then i'd draw a pic of what you mean as down turn also not right.

No I’ve been told they will lay insulation down on top of the boards, then the UFL and then screed. This will add at least 3cm to the height and I can’t get my head around how screed will go down with the kitchen already in but I’ve read about so many people who have had flooring after the kitchen. I just want to try and understand how it works! Many people on Instagram etc have shown the flooring going in after but I can’t get any specific detail on how it comes together…..

Hi we have moved kitchen to back of house and laid UFH albeit on concrete base. Floor needs to go down first, blank panels under where the floor units and any island units will be, then a thin screed on top before laying something like Amtico or other lvt. We laid parquet flooring and had to follow the same procedure. To save money and time laying the parquet under the units as we did it all ourselves we put large pieces of osb on top of the screeded blank panels (where the floor units were going) so that there was a flat surface for the units to be fitted. You wouldn't have much depth on LVT so could use marine ply perhaps which is a lot cheaper than Amtico under your units.

Flooring needs to be done first, when they lay the pipework they won't need to run the pipes where you have the units but the screed will then be all level, you could then fit the kitchen but the cabinet feet could end up damaging the screed as its only thin [especially over the pipework] so i'd lay the floor as well, then cover the new floor with hardboard to protect it till all work is finished.

When people have a floor fitted after a kitchen is fitted its only very thin, not 3cm, just a latex levelling compound and then the new flooring, any freestanding appliances would also have the new floor underneath. I agree with other's ref insulation under the UFH.
