Bedroom - chimney breast smaller than bed

Hi all
We have no storage in our bedroom and looking at getting fitted wardrobes down one side. To do that the only option would be to move the bed so it is infront of the chimney breast, which is smaller than the headboard....has anyone got any ideas of how to make this look better or done a similar thing??
The wardrobe would be on the right down the side and we wouldn't necessarily have the drawers on the left... Ideally I'd still like to have some kind of bedside table....!
We currently have the bed 90 degrees clockwise, so headboard is on the right side , the room isn't wide enough to have wardrobes going along the chimney breast wall, it's too tight....
Any ideas welcome, thanks!!

You could widen the chimney breast by building a timber frame and cover with plasterboard

do you want some symmetry or can you have the wardrobe on one side... I can see how you could fashion out an alcove on the window side

I found the Dulux Visualator, or whatever it’s called, to be pretty useless. I used it once to visualise my old sitting room colour just to see how accurate it was. My walls were Dulux Elderflower so compared it on the Dulux online thingy and it was completely different!

I think there's a doorway on the right which will prevent you from putting anything there. I presume it's a cupboard as the main door there would be strange. The room needs complete refurbishment of skirtings, and a radiator or two. If you're going to make a mess, i'd expose the brick on the Chimney stack. I too would go for bed in the middle facing the window. I don't think you'll have enough room between bed and window for anything other than a radiator, which is missing from the room at present. Although you could put two rads in, one under each window, and maybe have a dressing table at the foot of the bed if you have the room.

Don’t have dimensions but the en suite looks larger than it needs to be. I would move the wall between bedroom and en suite back a few feet then you could have wardrobe storage space along the bedroom side of the new stud wall. As building a new stud wall you could have a pocket door and I would put the bed and bedside tables as in the diagram above facing the window. In the ensuite I would make the shower as wide as possible stretching between the new stud wall and the exterior window wall and put the toilet and basin side-by-side along the window wall

Putting an open fireplace into a chimney breast - is this a mad idea?

I have opened up four large bricked up fireplaces. All four had varying degrees of messiness. The worse filled 90 bags with soot, dead birds, enough nesting branches to make up a tree, bones, insects, lots of insects, bricks and lime from inside the chimney and mystifyingly a piece of tombstone dated 1726. The least messy was marginally less messy with 35 bags. I have also removed wall vents in bedroom fireplaces and found them rammed with soot, insects, dead birds etc again filling bin bags in double figures. They were all worth doing not least because I now know they are structurally sound and there is good air flow to prevent damp. But they were not tasks for the faint hearted and I made sure to get professional advice before starting and got a chimney sweep in to clean them out and check them with a CCTV camera. What I am saying is be prepared. Be aware that above that fireplace is a lot of weight. Do you know if it is structurally sound all the way up to the chimney pots? Does it have a suitable sound lintel in the hearth? Have you sought professional advice? If you tick all those boxes then proceed but first empty the room if you can and tape up the door. Wear suitable PPE, gloves, hard hat and an all important PP3 face mask and have lots of bin bags! If you plan to have a real fire then it will need to comply with Building Regulations. Finally I cannot stress too strongly that this is one job where professional advice and or help is highly recommended.

Since storage is always needed, if you decide to build out the chimney breast you could incorporate some bedside storage in the upper section, either soft closing cupboards for a clean look, some alcoves and/or have some electric outlets fitted to incorporate lighting - which could be mounted leavIng bedside space free.
