A small garden with a modern twist

last year

A small unused garden in need of new life. The customer had come to us with the hope's of getting a garden revamp but had no idea what she wanted, so she let us carry on with our own design ideas. I'm pleased to say she was happy with the end results.

Shed integrated into covered seating area, back of shed has door opening onto street/ lane. I am guessing that you are UK based, hence the covered seating area. You could put doors on the 'open area' and have it as a garden room too with a sofa and small stove?. Nice for those Sunday mornings with a hot cup of coffee and the Sunday papers. Hi, Your room looks massively better stripped back to the original. I've got a black marble hearth that the people who bought my old house didn't want. If you're near Canterbury you're welcome to it. I'm going to South Manchester soon so cold possibly drop it off if you're en route. I'll see if I can get a photo later.

Thanks for the mention Sonia 🙂, although there’s plenty other great Houzzers who are also great with coming up with ideas and designs. Your drawing is fab! Most of my doodles start with nothing but a Bic biro 🤣. Hi Lins, I’ve been having a quick look and come up with a few ideas (see photo). As arc3d says, a circle could work well if you didn’t want straight lines and I agree with Sonia and make the garden borders bigger! So instead of having a skinny borders I’d make them at least 60 cm in width (try having a measure to see if this would work). This will give shrubs/plants that extra bit of room and make for a fuller/lusher garden. Was wondering about the hard standing at the rear of the garden, I’m assuming it’s concrete and where the shed was previously. If there’s a scenario where you can’t remove it then I was thinking you could pave over it and use it as a little seating area with a bench and outdoor rug for the little one (top sketch). As for the plastic storage, I would turn it 90 degrees so you only see it end on and possibly move it to adjacent the house in the window corner. I personally think they just look a bit ugly so try not to make it a focal point.
