What to do with skirtings, architraves?

I'm renovating my house, currently focusing on the bedrooms. Right now, the skirtings are pine stained to look like dark wood (from my parents renovation in the 80s), and the master bedroom also has large pine beams with the same dark treatment. I'd like to lighten it up, so I'm considering a few options:

1) Sanding & painting skirtings/architraves in a stone colour, similar to the colour I'll paint the walls,

OR

2) Replace existing skirtings and architraves with new oak ones (the doors will be replaced with new oak-look doors)

Some things to consider are:

- The landing has a nice real dark wood banister, railings & staircase (that I wouldn't want to paint)

- The downstairs of the house has white painted skirtings/architraves, with a mix of skirting styles

- It'd be nice to have a consistent theme throughout the house

- I will sand down and paint the dark beams in the bedroom

- I'll re-carpet upstairs in an ash colour

I've attached some photos. I'll be keeping some traditional furnishings in the house, but also bringing the aesthetic up to date with some more modern pieces to create a feeling of timelessness.

Any thoughts/feedback very welcome, thanks!

Jane
