What colour to repaint?
Comments (13)What worries me is the fact that you are talking about damp proofing.......in a very high percentage of cases, damp proofing is totally pointless. Lack of ventilation/broken downpipes/painted bricks/no gaps around the base of the house......these are a few of things that stop the house 'breathing'. If you haven't already, please look into it further otherwise you could just be chucking thousands of pounds away. Oh and in my opinion you shouldn't use mizzle it's way too green for that space. I agree with using the light and bright paint....it worked for me in a dark Victorian stairwell....See MoreWhat to do with our mock Tudor external?
Comments (28)I love this! I’m really wanting add Tudor cladding to our garage and I love the way you have all photoshopped to see it before you do it. How do I do this? I’m thinking render and Tudor cladding above the garage and rendered within the porch area. We’ve just had the garage door painted and I feel it needs something extra. a couple of houses on the street have Tudor cladding so it wouldn’t look out of place....See MoreDamp Chimney breast
Comments (13)How old is the house? If the fireplace originally had a coal fire then it could be salts and not damp. This should explain all https://www.heritage-house.org/damp-and-condensation/types-of-damp-what-have-i-got/salt-damage-in-old-buildings.html We had the same when we replastered the office, we simply used some Zinsser paint to cover the patches and re painted with emulsion. Problem solved? Who knows but the “wet” looking patches have not returned....See Moredamp Victorian extension
Comments (7)Have you checked the ground levels outside the property? They may be too high. Also are there any ground level vents to allow air to the sub floor? I’m guessing there’s not if it’s been filled in with concrete. I have a similar issue but on a smaller scale at the front door of my Victorian property where it’s been filled with concrete. I put natural stone tiles down to allow any moisture to evaporate. I also recommend you take a look at a website heritage-house.com. Lots of information on here before you go looking at a damp proofing company. Hope you manage to solve the issue. Good luck....See Morenmcs
