Being a considerate neighbour vs. Style- stairs
Comments (7)Carpeting the stairs will probably be cheaper than a runner! It isn't a style flop at all - it's just the norm and the colour of the carpet can be used to tie the tiled hallway to the upstairs, thus drawing the eye up and making the space feel larger (as the eye goes from one colour to another.) I too love bare stairs but soon found them an inconvenience with the cleaning! A quick vacuum and carpet stairs are done. With wood it's a brush and pan, then a wipe over with a damp cloth or disinfectant. Dare I say this... at the end of the day it is your home. I have regularly helped my neighbours and almost pandered to them - it gets one nowhere. I recently returned home and found my neighbour had been having her workmen park their vans on my drive as she thought I had gone away. No apology and she didn't clean the cigarettes, dirt or nails away either. Don't feel bad in apologising and buying a pair of quality slippers or slipper socks! I imagine the noise comes from wearing shoes?...See MoreTime to move on to the hallway.
Comments (19)Well, still nothing to report, and we are absolutely no further forward on deciding the paint colours. Last night I went into Homebase after work yet again for a couple more testers - put them up, nahhhhh. This hallway has been a complete nightmare from start to finish and I wish that we'd left it well alone. I suppose in the long-run it'll be worth it, but I'm finding it really hard to muster up any enthusiasm on it now - it's been dragging on for months. @OnePlan: Yeah, I would consider laying the stair runner myself for sure, it's not the laying that was the issue, it was the fact it'd been cut wrong that's the problem, and it looked stupid. However, at the moment, the sooner this room is done the better, I just want to see the back of it, so as the carpet place do the service, I'll happily pay a professional to do it in an afternoon, rather than me spending any more time on it. Also, I have a terrible terrible habit of injuring myself whenever I come into contact with Carpet Grippers. No matter how long or short, removing them from the floor, moving them from the floor to the rubbish container, or even from the rubbish container into the dustbin - my hands always look like I've been attacked with a cheese grater. Seriously, I am 100% certain, that at some point in time when carpet grippers are involved I will need a plaster! @Carolina: Oh don't you worry about that, I've got some scrap paper and a head-full of ideas. Another project is forthcoming (may start this weekend actually) involving an area to the side of our house currently used for dumping things (1m.80 across the back and 2m.24 to the front) Separate thread incoming :)...See Moreloft bedroom - painting the floorboards
Comments (15)Worked out for our room size it will likely cost us about £300 for a cheap laminate excluding underlay and fitting. Can fit most of it ourselves I guess to save money and just get our joiner to do the fiddly bits. We have about 22sqm - if I stuck with the painted floor option then what primer do you recommend ie to stop any knots from coming through. Just a standard knot block primer/sealer? Floor paint wise, any good ones that are durable or am I best having a quick drying floor paint with a top coat of polyurethane varnish on top to make it easier to wash/keep clean? White is a bit of a pain. Carpet does sound so easy and the fastest option but I hate browns and creams and bore d of pale grey so no idea what colour would work with every colour scheme. We also have allergies so worry about carpet being a dust attractor :/...See MoreKarndean cost, supplied and fitted
Comments (10)We're not actually having plywood underneath.. as it's not needed due to having concrete mostly, but we've got quite a hefty crack between the existing and extension so there is some repair work to be done there, and an additional screed that they need due to the type of flooring we have in part of the existing house.. Karndean – Van Gogh @ £52 Sqm Latex Floor Screed @ £10 Sqm we had some other quotes that came in at £60 and another that came in higher (most didn't break it down to the sqm price, just the end quote) But because we're having carpets done upstairs and a large area downstairs they then did us a bit of a deal and knocked off some off the overall price......See More- 2 years ago
