I need help with decor and sofa colours

Hi All, we have now completed our extension and have a large sitting, dining and kitchen area. I am rubbish with decorating, hence I need your advise on how to make the sitting area look cohesive. The kitchen is dark blue.

We currently have 2 sofas, taupe and speckled blue in the living area (picture attached) and dark grey dining and island seats. I feel the taupe sofa looks out of place though it's super comfy!

I feel my options are:

1. I wonder if I should replace the taupe sofa with a dark blue velvet sofa from the separate living room. But I'm worried there would be too many blue in the space.

2. Remove the blue sofa and replace with a smaller dark grey sofa or a colour similar to the taupe sofa.

I also need help with wall decorations!

Keep the taupe, but rotate it facing the tv. Just one sofa.

@rinked We may need to add extra seating as we a family of 5 and spend the evenings in that space. What colour would your recommend and would it be like accent chairs?

keep the frieze white, I know that it might be tempting to paint it to go, but as it is likely an original feature, and was originaly white, plaster friezes should just stay white. not briliant white dulux, like an art gallery but a lovely natural white, like shirting from the little greene paint co. UNless you are painting them with golds etc in some palace I fell they always look much better white. and try not to get too much contrast in your paints, look for a pinky greys , lilac shadow from sanderson paints, mirage from the little green paint company , and fig greyt from zoffany are all examples of greys that hit a pinky tone, but GET SAMPLES they are invaluable for the seeing the nuances of shade and sublteties that only the light in your room will pick up. i can send you paint charts if ytou need them karly

Hi. It looks a lovely room, all of the colours in your ideabook or shades of would work or a mint green with coral. I'd add a mustard chair (this one is nearly chartreuse). You could use a shade of purple as an accent colour for cushions etc. Add a gold/brass mirror over the fire and I'd go for glass coffee table/s so you can still see the floor beneath. I'd add a floor lamp over the sofa (I keep posting this plug in from westelm as can only find this one or one from made!) alternatively if you move the plant you could add a swing arm or arc lamp where the plant is. I would actually go for a grey patterned rug if the floor has grey tones as it won't make the room feel smaller. Again this is westelm and it has a yellow thread running through it but they have a number of grey patterned rugs. I'd go for Roman blinds on the windows. I might just actually go for shelves in the alcove to make the room feeling smaller, alternatively a hanging cabinet beneath shelves can work, will see I find I can find pictures.

Hello Ana! The sofa you have chosen is very beautiful and elegant. For what concerns the walls I would paint them in white colour without wallpapers, in order to make the room brighter and wider. I would recommend you some models of armchairs and coffee tables (to put in the centre of the living room); they are available in several elegant colours and finishings. Try the taupe sofa facing the tv and place the blue dining chairs on either side to see if that works for you. Can always replace the latter.

Because if you all have to look sideways every evening, that's not much fun either.

Lovely space, but there’s not much point in having a tv without any seating facing it unless you never watch it. Colour wise they look fine together. Maybe add some blue cushions on the taupe sofa? Also a nice big rug to zone the sofas together and add cosiness would be good. The room does look a little unfinished so add art on the walls, lamps, cushions, coffee table/footstool and maybe a plant or two. It’s a great space, just needs cosying up. Here’s some ideas for accessorising.

I would consider a sofa made from several modular sections that can be moved at your discretion in the TV viewing area.

Something like this style (upholstery like this would suit you very well).
