Small living room with stairs
Comments (16)Hi Natalie. I think with spaces like this where you need to maximise storage and not block the walkway I would have custom made shelves under the stairs - some of these can be open for books and DVDs and others as cupboards. I would then fit the TV on a bracket on the wall where the dolls house currently is. A small sideboard could be added under here or where the 'play kitchen' is although this would limit the size of the L-shaped sofa. I think painting the woodwork white is a great idea and I would also suggest swapping the floor length curtains for a Roman blind to increase the sense of space....See MoreMoving stairs to create space! Comments (7)Something like this could be another option. Depending on the age of the property and judging by the layout of your house I think this might have been the original location of the stairs. You would lose a little space in the kitchen tho, depends if this is a priority. Bed 3 would need a window as well as I don't see one indicated on your plan. Quite possible that you would need planning for this or at least compliance to building regs. I'd get a builder in first to look at feasibility and a rough estimate of cost and try to get something in writing. Armed with this info then speak to your local authorities planning department....See MoreIdeas for empty space above stairs
Comments (24)I have the same space, but all ready have a cupboard accessible from the bedrooms. Trying to decide whether to board over the space to have a sloping ceiling which is what a neighbour has just done. We would then extend the cupboard, but don’t really want to add another door from the bedrooms. Or possibly make a feature and cover it with large antique style mirror tiles. Please post pictures of what you do?...See MoreUnder stairs ideas?
Comments (9)If the desire is to keep it an open space, I’d recommend putting something visually striking there...perhaps an interesting trunk or low sideboard. You can use plants and /or lamps to balance out the sloping line created by the stairs above. It looks like you may have a walnut or mahogany bannister, so choosing a similar wood would also tie in the piece well....See More- 7 months agolast modified: 7 months ago
