Most DIY stores sell this type of trim. B&Q has a good selection.

Might be called panel moulding? You should be able to obtain it easily enough.

Most DIY stores sell lots of trim and beading. It’s usually displayed in a wooden cabinet and the trims lie flat within it. Usually where doors, architrave and skirting boards are.

Thank you so much all! @Luxe, exactly which one did you get as I went to B&Q, Wicks and other places but cant find the right one, or the right size. My wardrobe doors are small, just 160cm tall x 44cm wide but I want a modern country look and all the beading I have seen in B&Q etc look so big or not right and I clearly can't visualise very well ;) . Any links to the right one would be appreciated! Many thanks!

I got the Astragal moulding in 22mm but looking at your images you may want to look at the ogee moulding too. I’ll screenshot both.

To create a modern country look like the attached grey wardrobes would this B&Q one or the wicks ogee look better do you think?

This is the door with the B&Q beading stuck on... Do you think it will look modern country once painted and the beading is in the right place? The door is 159cm x 43cm so I am doing the edge of the beading 6cm from the edge of the door, if that is right. Thank you so so so much!!!

Hey that’s perfect and yes that will look great.

Traditional shaker doors usually have around 80-100mm stiles/rails so my preference would be putting the outside of the bead 80mm from the edge of the door but there is no wrong answer here, whatever you prefer is the right way to do it :)

Sorry, I have another question please if you don't mind! As per the photos, my wardrobes have a support architrave in the middle and the ends, which I do not like. I was hoping it could be removed and turned around so it is flat and plain but it doesn't seem to come out. There isn't much depth to glue a solid piece of wood onto it to clad it, so do you know what could be used which is super thin but won't bend or warp?

Also, do you know what height the door knobs should be. Thank you!

Hey Maria, no problem at all.

Ideally you would want to remove it and replace it with some 18mm MDF but if you are struggling to get it off then the easiest solution would be to cut 3mm MDF to the same width as the fluted panel. I would then "key up" the fluted panel (basically sand it with course sandpaper) and use some no more nails adhesive + small veneer pins to attach the 3mm MDF on to the face of it.

This may make these panels stick out slightly further than the doors but you would have a small amount of in/out adjustment on the doors to get it a little bit more flush.

It is likely that they are just currently glued on and if you are going to clad them then I would have another go at removing them with more persuasion, or check behind where the hinge plates are for screws.

In terms of door knob height, there is no absolute answer and it largely depends on the style of your door (your existing doors it is in the middle of the centre rail) but as a general rule of thumb I always aim for about 900mm off the floor :)

Thank you so very much!! I have removed all accessible screws supporting this fluted panel, but it seems like it has been glued in and will damage the rest of the frame trying to remove it. I have used the 18mm moisture resistant MDF for the wardrobe doors and my painter said I should use a 6mm moisture resistant MDF for the fluted panels as he said it is more rigid and won't bend/warp or cause issues in the future.

I cannot get the moisture-resistant MDF in 3mm and even though 6mm will stick out at the bottom, I don't want to risk any issues with the 3mm MDF.

Will the standard 3mm MDF be perfectly fine to use or is it safer with the 6mm moisture resistant one? Or any other thin material which won't lose it;s rigidity. Thanks a million for your help here!!

That's a shame, I've worked with fitters in the past that put far too many fixings in which is great when it comes to it being structurally sound but I always feel bad for the people that have to remove it in years to come!

In my opinion, if the 3mm is secured on with 'no more nails' and pins then I can't see how it would lose its rigidity. I would put a line of no nails along the surface of each groove (not inside the groove but the top part) then push the cladding onto it until it won't go any further (maybe even use a rubber mallet), then just some small veneer pins up up the edges and in the middle - Make sure the pin heads are buried slightly so you can fill the holes afterwards.

The other advantage of 3mm is you can hide the edge of it much easier as you can just sand a bevel onto the edge which hides the joint.

You wouldn't need MR MDF here either with it being in a bedroom, once it is painted it is sealed. I have done a similar thing in my bedroom where I clad an existing unit in 6mm MDF (not moisture resistant) and it has stayed in the same condition 6 years later.
