Smallish living room layout confusion
Comments (55)Thanks guys for the tips on the skirting board, carpet, and TV-bench wall. Loving that last pic carolins - would be great to find a space for a huge canvas somewhere in the living room. Re: the living room wall I've been putting some ideas together and I'm thinking maybe wall-mounted shelves above the bench. I'm not keen on IKEA's floating 'Lack' line as the shelves themselves are too chunky at 5cm think, which leaves me looking at options with visible brackets. Also, I've been looking at IKEA's 'Ribba' picture-ledge which looks like a great way of leaning art, photos, and attractive books against the wall. Loads of pictures on my pinterest boards (linked above) but here are a couple more. What do you think? I've never bothered with wall-mounted shelves before because until now I've always rented, so I've no idea how to fit them, or what sort of weight they can bear. I don't want to be worrying about them falling off the wall or caving my house in... Comments (3)If you want to make use of the whole room then maybe think about putting the TV above the fireplace? Copper accessories are very popular right now and would look great if you continue the scheme throughout both rooms as it would link them well. The copper I think would compliment the wood nicely as long as you have enough of it to make a feature....See MoreOpening centre of house for connection between front and back rooms?
Comments (7)Hi Joe, in case you are still deliberating :-) I prefer the second layout with the diagonal view from the living room to the kitchen. Firstly, the space in the middle will function as a sort of lobby, leading to 3 different areas - upstairs, kitchen and living room so it needs more room to make it comfortable to navigate. It should be able to accommodate more than one person at a time. Also so often front rooms become dead spaces because there is no direct view into this room from the main activity areas of the house which is usually the kitchen/dining area. The view into the living room will allow vitality from the kitchen to flow into this room to enliven it and you also have the flexibility to close it off when needed for quieter moments. I am adopting a very similar layout myself for the same reason and so refreshing to see someone thinking along the same lines. I think the additional cost in beams will be more than worth it in the long run. All the best with your project!...See MoreWall panelling in my living room but stove is off centre
Comments (20)No. You can have panelling that goes two thirds the way up the wall topped with a shelf (like an upside down skirting board if that makes any sense). You can also have it over the panelling in line with a horizontal board. There are lots of different versions....See More- last month
