Empty living room wall
A dominant wall in the living room. Thought about having a big picture or a gallery of pictures. I think I prefer to have 1 big piece as I am completly talentless when it comes to design, and I will have to pay for someone to create and execute the gallery for me.
If you have any other ideas of what to do with it, or what you think will look better, i appreciate any help. Thanks!
this picture distorts the size of the wall making it wider than it is, but just to give you the general mood of the house

last monthA nice piece of art or a mirror would be nice. I must admit I nearly had a breakdown trying to perfectly line up three pictures in a row, so a gallery wall would be a nightmare for me! If you look on Etsy for art, or a bit more expensive try King & McGaw or John Lewis, but there are tons of art retailers online. Here’s a couple of ideas, but it does depend on your preferred style.

Comments (13)sit with the wall for a while, when does it look less bad? u could go for a corbusier one colour wall, ie only primary colour; u could paint the wall a natural earthen colour, like not yet dried plain plaster/terracotta etc., u could do a mirror on it to maximise the light from the window, though i hate windows, u could go cosy with dado rail and colour on one half or picture rail higher up obviously. check out acton town house it has a nice apricot white (it's a similar shaped and sized room); u could check out Tokyo A certain style (it's a book) and go all storage-mad but in a nice Japanese way, not too ikea; also see Muji - this room could be Japanised very nicely; best advice though going back to my first point, is to ignore teh furniture mentallly as u sit in different parts of teh room at different times of teh day, see the book Wabi Sabi for how to do this and the genuine organic results that can arise; where does the sun hit which wall etc. also, just scroll through picture after picture on this sort of website, it educates your eye somehow and you'll see new possibilites. u like scandinavia so check out ikeas different treatments of same room a few brochures back. u could plaster it with black shelving if the wall is a cold north facing wall, wtih colourful books and storage items, being bossy i would say, go for golden sand, one low shelf with dark artifacts archeological style and uplighter (cf other persons idea 'cool floor lamp/lighting' - on this low shelf could be also recharging phone, cool shallow dish, and a changing display of natural items. the wall could equally well be an aqua blue, quite pale, but not arctic, in order to look scandi; theh shelf should be stone or slate or white, not black, or bamboo of course; now once you've done this u can enjoy the wall with changinglight effects from teh window, which would need to be bare but for a black roller blind. the rest of the walls could have warmer treatments to make up for your low level statement wall. have a look at Freud's house in hampstead, it's not scandi, but it is similar type building and also, it has been modernised in some rooms. please show rest of room, state rooms' purpose and let us know how u do it eventually. thanks¬...See MoreEmpty corner space in living room
Comments (22)Thanks everyone, some great ideas here. I think I'm going to go for a big modern lamp, although the idea of a Tiffany lamp has me thinking. Adding a bold bit of colour. I won't go for a table as I think I've got too much oak and furniture in the room. Had looked at a corner unit and there are some fantastic ones around. But again it's another piece of furniture. I'm not discounting the plant idea either but will decide in the next few days. It's just strange having two sofas instead of the corner unit. I'm going to start by taking down the curtains and getting lighter ones. Will post a picture when I've finished. Thanks for all your input, it's helped a great deal. Comments (3)Furniture ideas? About to move to an empty flat soon. Bedroom 2 for my 13 year old very tech conscious boy. Want a wood table to work on his numerous gadgets and reading as well as a double bed and wardrobe. Is there just Ikea or another good budget choice? Also any good way to leave some empty space for lying on the floor? He likes it to be light and not clustered. Is it better to hire a designer to arrange a better layout? Very limited budget, though. PROlast monthI would pull the TV cabinet forward slightly - not everything needs to be against a wall and then I would hang a nice piece of artwork on the bare wall with a drinks cart or something similar underneath. Try and think of a way to make the space functional but aesthetically pleasing as well. Maybe not the exact colours in the pic given your colour scheme but something similar

PRO14 days agoI go with the minimalist fine art prints for this wall because the complete environment already has enough elements to keep it cosy. I will also chose to balance the blue/grey wall at the end of the room by adding some soft grey with white and black on this wall but in subtle tone and with a bit of colour to make it stand out yet blend .
