Complete change of kitchen

last month

Hi,

we’re changing our kitchen and i never thought it woild be so difficult ! currently have an ivory shaker kitchen. i chose a cashmere shaker as our new kitchen but then thought its very similar to what i have now. so i went for steel blue with oak worktops but i just cannot decide . i know its personal choice bit has anyone had a steel blue ( similar to duck egg blue ) and regretted it? im in my 60s , my husband older so this will be our final kitchen so i cant get it wrong. apologies formttpos but ive just had eye surgery!

You should have what makes you happy. I love blue for a kitchen but I think navy is a better option than pale blue. It just looks very smart. I appreciate you would like a change. What is your favourite colour? If you choose shaker you should be able to repaint it later if you grow tired of the steel blue. It also depends on the surrounding rooms and how it would gel with the rest of your house. I appreciate that ivory to cashmere is not enough of a change for you.

Good pointsthere. i love navy too very smart but the kitchen isnt the lightest. cashmere is quite similar to now but ive looked at wood worktops and i thought it looks quite nice. the rest of the bungalow is pretty neutral lots of beige and wood but with pops of colour too, oh dear i just dont know ! i have to decide this week as we need it fitted in september before my husband has surgery, some images below of a section of the kitchen. the kitchens

supplier is English Rose. which is part of Omega plc. there is no island in the kitchen but in one corner there is a seating nook which is beige and wood. floor is wood effect .

im sure il decide one way or the ofher!

I really like the blue. I think you do too. Go for it, it's lovely and suble. You could always repaint if you so desired later. I think the blue will look really good with an oak worksurface.

Blue looks fab with wood, whether it’s navy or lighter. I’m thinking of a new kitchen. Nothing wrong with it and it too is ivory and 14 years old, but I keep changing my mind on colour! I’m thinking classic white, soft green, taupe, blue………the list goes on. I have an oak worktop and I always think it looks fab with white. Of your two choices, I really like the blue, assuming your picture is the true colour.

its a fairly good colour match Sonia but its more duck egg blue . this is it on the compny’s visualiser where you can pick various colours and finishes on their kitchen lay out. its so difficult isnt it, i want something a bit different to what ive got now but im scared of making a mistake. in a way its worse as like you my kitchen isnt old just want a change . maybe i shojld change my husband as we arent agreeing on anything so hes putting doubts in my mind !

I love the blue one. We’re in our 60s and helping elderly mothers, which has made us determined to do what we can to future-proof our house for our use. Top tip from observing our Mums is to have the fridge as close as possible to the tea making area. And have wall cupboard things as low as possible as it gets harder to reach as we age. Just what we’ve found and are pondering for the future. Good luck!

Hi Lauraine, I think you should stick with the blue. It is lovely and compliments the space well ( and I think you AND your husband will love it, once it is completed).

Love the blue . i panted kitchen units that colour a few years ago and loved it , had lots of compliments . Have since had a new kitchen fitted (cream) hubby says its boring now so looking to paint it again .

Mmm i get what you mean entirely, my worry is i could hate the

blue whereas the cashmere is probably at worse going to be a bit bland.

i found moving house easier than this !

im awful at deciding whay colours when decorating , but i do have a lot of duckegg blue in my house , we,re going to paint our kitchen cabinets a sagey green , to much cream n my kitchen at the moment , and i hate magnolia 😂😂😂 good luck whatever you decide

Hi Lauraine, if you are worried about it being dark, it is the worktops that will make the biggest difference. We had a cream kitchen in our bungalow (N Facing kitchen) when we moved in but it looked dingy, especially as the owners had chosen wooden Worktops (which I love but having had before got bored of the upkeep) and a black floor. Kitchen is now in east facing bit, so still not the lightest room, but it is so much brighter - despite now having a deep forest green kitchen - because we have a pale floor and carrara marble quartz worktops that bounce all the light around. What direction does your kitchen face? A lot of people on here seem to find Cashmere very hard to match.

Oh im so confused ! ive gine back niw to liking cashmere as it more in keeping with the rest of the bungalow but i will probably change my mind again! if i dont order it Monday then it will be too kate to get it done this year ( husband is having surgery September and im disabled so it will be too much to manage on my own).

so my latest thought is cashmere units with wooden effect worktops, neff appliances, quooker tap . i also like the glass picture hob splashback .

im in my 60s,by the time i decide it will ve too late !!

the 8mage below is not my kitchen configuration but its the colours im favouring ( today 🫣).

    final opinions please

Agree with Isla. Trust your instincts. You seem more comfortable with the Cashmere and the image you have below looks lovely.

Yes thank you all - il let you know how it goes !

I’ve commented on your other post Lauraine about worktops and splashback. A cashmere kitchen is very relaxing and neutral. I have cashmere wardrobes in my bedroom and I still love them ten years on. Follow your heart and you can’t go wrong. I’m having a knee replacement next month (eek!) which has involved a lot of organising as I’m a carer for my husband. He is going into respite care whilst I recover. Good luck with everything and I can’t wait to see it all when it’s completed!
