ideas for what to do with the fire surround, should it stay or Go?
Comments (35)Tricky one, I'm not usually a fan of 1930s fireplaces but this one is better than most. It really depends on the style you are creating in the room, it's never going to look contemporary or cool but it is an original period feature. If I could make it work I would be inclined to keep it but if it was restricting my design choices too much I would get rid of it!...See MoreHow many kitchen cupboards can / should you fit in a room 4mx4m?
Comments (4)I think practical necessities aside you should make decisions based on the room, the light and the style of the cabinets. For instance if you favour modern handleless kitchens with drawers you might prefer fewer cabinets so that you can see the lines, if you have a great view you might choose fewer cabinets to obstruct the view less. I would say entry level suppliers tend to concentrate less on design, and more on squeezing in as many cabinets as possible. I feel this often means that windows and the extractor feel crowded. If your budget is for anything better than entry level then I would get it professionally designed. There are some brilliant independent kitchen showrooms or you can recruit a designer to work with in the professionals section...See MoreWhat style of door should I fit?
Comments (8)Thanks Rachel, funnily enough you picked out 2 pics I saved to my ideas book. The 1st is what I started with as I love the solid tongue and groove doors but I'm a little worried about how dark it will make the hallway. This was also the pic that made me think of matching my door and windows funnily enough. The next pic is this door I chose, painted in my window colour and with clear glazing, which I want too. Maybe I will risk the dark and go for the tongue and groove, just with panel through the middle so I can add the mail box? Its a lovely look for sure. Thanks for taking the time to look at these for me, I really appreciate your opinion....See MoreWhich layout should I go for?
Comments (7)I also prefer the 2nd option as having the living space separate to the bedroom space is ideal. You also have 2 storage cupboards in the hallway? You could utilise these for extra clothing or knock through from the small bedroom into the one cupboard to give a wardrobe space (hard without physically seeing it to know if that would work of course) kitchen wise - yes it isn’t as long but it has a nice shape (plus the balcony!) and I think you could add a peninsular island to this to create a dining space. If it comes off the wall with seating then it take up less space than a dining table and will give you more living space. Get some gas lift padded comfy stools with foot rest and you won’t notice it’s not a standard dining table! Plus it’s extra cooking/prep space when you have company....See More- last month
